What's In My Gym Bag: Barry Jay, Co-Founder of Barry's Bootcamp

We’re taking a peek inside our favorite health and fitness experts’ gym bags to uncover their must-have gear and favorite products.

Name: Barry Jay, Co-Founder of Barry’s Bootcamp

My workout: I work out mostly at Barry’s Bootcamp in West Hollywood. I’m always traveling, so I’m likely to pop into another Barry’s location if I’m in a city with a studio. If I can’t make it to a Barry’s for a class, I’ll mimic the workout at a local gym (or in the hotel gym, if I have to) and do interval strength training and cardio bursts.

What’s in my gym bag:

  1. My “gym bag” is a Herschel camo backpack.

  2. I stop to answer emails when I can on my laptop and also use it as a source of music for my classes.

  3. I have an affinity for horror films, and the design on my wallet reflects that. The wallet was purchased at “Monsterpalooza” at the booth of a brand called Rock Rebel. Displayed on it are iconic universe monsters, including Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and Dracula.

  4. Barry’s Bootcamp water bottle — I always stay hydrated, no matter where I am running off to.

  5. Vega bars are a vegan go-to snack of mine.

  6. Headphones. Skullcandy!

  7. Keys.

  8. Extra shirt for post-workout.

  9. Microphone covers for the headset I wear while teaching a class

  10. Doggie bags — when you have two dogs of your own and frequently dogsit for your friends, it’s mandatory to have these with you at all times!

  11. My “to-do” list — I write it each morning so I can map out my day.

  12. A Barry’s sweat towel, which I keep with me just in case I continue to sweat post-workout (which is usually the case!).

  13. A pair of Barry’s lifting gloves, which I usually wear during my workouts both at Barry’s and at the gym when I’m strength training. These help to protect my hands from getting too many calluses during my frequent lifting sessions.
