Adorable Sloth Gets Stuck Crossing Highway, Waits Patiently to Be Rescued

We have great news for this little guy!

From Woman's Day

One very lucky little sloth made headlines this weekend after being trapped in between highway lanes in Ecuador. Now, it's not unusual for these extremely slow-moving animals to get into some trouble on busy roads, but what made this adorable little guy go viral was his cute, calm demeanor as he held onto a steel pole for dear life.

Quickly realizing he couldn't make it all the way across the busy highway, he decided to stay put and patiently wait for a rescue team. Sure enough, Ecuadorian transit police caught sight of the furry creature and came in with a helping hand.

Officer Aguayo picked up the 'lazy bear,' as they're called in Ecuador and promptly took him to a veterinarian to make sure all of his vitals were normal. Thankfully, the adorable sloth was as healthy as can be and he was returned to his natural habitat safe and sound.

After this story quickly made the rounds on Facebook, the executive director of the Ecuador Transit Commission deemed it mandatory to immediately attend to all animals found on streets and highways.

Looks like this sloth is an accidental hero!

UPDATE: January 26, 2016 at 2:56 p.m.: In an update posted to the Ecuador transit police Facebook page, it looks as though the little guy has been safely returned back to his natural habitat. And guess what? He's still smiling!

The authorities wrote, "The world's most famous sloth is happy in its habitat. Thanks to all for your concern."

Here's to many more days spent hanging out in trees and not on highway dividers.
