Feeling sleepy? You’re not alone — Americans get an average 6.7 hours of sleep a night, which is less than the seven to nine hours recommended by experts, according to the results of a recent survey.

Even worse, just 5.68 of those hours are considered restful, according to the survey, commissioned by Sleep Number and conducted by an independent research firm. The results are based on 5,314 survey responses (approximately 100 from each state and Washington, D.C.).

This is a big problem, considering the myriad health risks associated with too little sleep — not to mention it does a number on your skin and appearance. (If you need some pointers for better ZZs, check out these 20 tips to ensure proper slumber tonight.)

Below, find the 10 most sleep-deprived states and the 10 most well-rested states, and the average number of hours of sleep residents in those states get each night.
