Check the top of the lid of your jar of SKIPPY — you might need to throw it out.

Certain 16.3-ounce jars of SKIPPY Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter spread are being recalled because they might contain metal shavings. One-hundred and fifty three cases — or 1,871 pounds — of peanut butter that went out to distribution centers for Walmart, Target, and Publix in Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware and Arkansas are affected by the recall.

The Food and Drug Administration warns that any objects in food that are more than 7 millimeters long can be a dangerous if eaten by causing choking, gastrointestinal perforation, or a secondary infection. No injuries linked to this recall have been reported thus far.

The jars of SKIPPY affected by the recall have a UPC code of 37600-10500 on the top of the lid and a “Best if used by” date of DEC1416LR1.

If you’ve purchased a recalled product, return it where you bought it or call Hormel Foods Customer Relations at 1-866-475-4779.

This isn’t the only recent recall prompted by metal fragments that, well, just shouldn’t be in the food. Kraft Foods Group issued a huge recall earlier this year of its Macaroni & Cheese Dinner because they might contain metal fragments.
