Okay men, time to ‘fess up: How much time have you spent worrying that your penis size isn’t, well, “normal”? Well, an analysis of “normal” penis length and circumference, recently released in the journal BJU International, puts an end to the second-guessing once and for all.

British researchers reviewed 17 studies that included more than 15,500 men, to create a graphical diagram of the average penis size in certain scenarios. They found, for instance, that a flaccid penis was 9.16 centimeters (3.6 inches) long, on average, while a flaccid stretched penis was 13.24 centimeters (5.2 inches) long, on average. Meanwhile, the average length of an erect penis was found to be 13.12 centimeters (5.2 inches).

The average flaccid circumference of a penis was 9.31 centimeters (3.7 inches), and the average erect circumference was 11.66 centimeters (4.6 inches). The study also found a small correlation between erect length and height (though no word on any relation to foot size).

“We believe these graphs will help doctors reassure the large majority of men that the size of their penis is in the normal range,” study author David Veale, MD, a researcher at King’s College London, said in a statement. “We will also use the graphs to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be their position on the graph and their actual position or what they think they should be.”
