4 Healthy Ways To Boost The Flavor Of Your Popcorn

When you think of popcorn, you may think of an unhealthy treat — drenched in butter at the movies, dusted in fake cheese powder out of the vending machine, and smothered in chocolate around the holidays.

The truth is, plain, air-popped popcorn is actually a healthy snack — with just 60 calories in two cups of the stuff, and providing 10 percent of your daily value of fiber.

However, plain popcorn just tastes so … boring. Fortunately, there are ways to boost the flavor of the snack — that are actually, dare we say, healthy.

Matcha + Popcorn: Adding matcha — a brightly colored, antioxidant-rich green tea powder — to popcorn gives you an energy boost with a unique taste. (A little goes a long way, so start with a teaspoon first, for a bowl of popcorn.)

Turmeric + Popcorn: Another bright color and bold flavor to add is turmeric, which is a known inflammation-fighter. Try adding a couple teaspoons to a bowl of plain popcorn — it could end up being your new addiction.

Coconut Oil + Cinnamon + Popcorn: Now for tackling your sweet tooth. Who needs caramel when cinnamon and coconut oil are in your kitchen? Melt just a little bit of the coconut oil (just enough to lightly the popcorn), and then sprinkle cinnamon on top.

Almond Milk + Popcorn: Want to get really crazy? Add some cold almond milk to air-popped popcorn (it’s tastier than your normal cereal!). Sprinkle some cinnamon on top if you need a little extra flavor with your crunch.

Don’t knock it ‘til you pop it.
