Body-Peace Resolution Challenge #31: Make This Protein Smoothie for Breakfast

(Illustration by Emily Sundberg for Yahoo Health)

The Challenge: Today, make your breakfast a protein shake. You know how important it is, but amidst the morning craziness, who has time or the mood to create and eat a healthy protein-rich meal? A low-sugar impact protein shake with non-soy, non-dairy plant- or animal-based powder makes the perfect solution.

The Benefits: It’s fast, easy, money-saving, kid-friendly, effortless, fat-burning, and keeps you full and focused for hours. Plus, it’s nourishing to your body, helping you feel good from the inside out. Here’s one of my current favorite shake recipes:

Coconut-Vanilla Shake

You may feel like you should be drinking this creamy, nutrition packed shake out of a coconut shell, with your toes in the sand. With the added protein and fiber, it will easily keep you satisfied throughout the morning.

Makes 1 serving

  • 1–2 scoops vanilla plant or Paleo powder

  • 1 scoop Extra Fiber (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon raw cashew butter

  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground flax seed

  • ¼ teaspoon coconut extract

  • 8-10 ounces unsweetened coconut milk

  • 5-6 ice cubes

Combine the protein blend, fiber blend, cashew butter, flax seed, coconut extract, coconut milk, and ice cubes. Mix on high until smooth. Thin with additional cold water if desired.
