The mother of Karon Blake, the 13-year-old boy who was shot and killed on Jan. 7 in Washington, D.C., has spoken out about her son’s death for the first time since the tragic incident. The Wednesday press conference was located at the offices of The Cochran Firm in Washington, D.C., the firm representing Karon’s mother, Londen Blake. This press conference comes just a day after Jason Lewis, the man accused of killing Karon, was charged with second-degree murder while armed.
The FBI conducted a "planned search" Wednesday morning of President Joe Biden's home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, according to Biden's personal lawyer amid an ongoing probe into the potential mishandling of classified documents. Afterward, Biden's persoinal attorney Bob Bauer said no documents with classified markings were found, but "DOJ took for further review some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to his time as Vice President." The search took place for three-and-a-half hours, Bauer said -- from 8:30 a.m. to noon ET.
The House could vote as soon as Thursday on a resolution to keep Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House Rules Committee voted along party lines on Tuesday night, 9-4, to advance a resolution to effectively block Omar from the panel -- by removing her once she is seated. On Wednesday, the chamber voted to move forward with a vote on the resolution, which was introduced by Republican Rep. Max Miller of Ohio.

A man accused of torturing a woman who evaded police for a week is dead following an hourslong standoff, Oregon police said. Benjamin Obadiah Foster, 36, was wanted for attempted murder, kidnapping and assault, police said. The Grants Pass Police Department announced late Tuesday that Foster was in custody following a standoff.
Phil McGraw is moving on from "Dr. Phil." McGraw chose to end his syndicated daytime talk show after 21 seasons to embark on new ventures, CBS Media Ventures announced Tuesday. "I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television," McGraw said in a statement.

State Farm and Progressive are refusing to insure vehicles in certain states over the rising rate of theft, caused primarily by the absence of technology known as an engine immobilizer - a redundancy system that pairs a vehicle's key fob to the car's internal computer. Certain Hyundai and Kia models manufactured before the 2022 model year didn't come with immobilizers.
The Trump Organization's controller is expected to testify Thursday before a grand jury in New York that is investigating whether former President Donald Trump played a role in the hush payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. Jeffrey McConney has worked at the Trump Organization for more than three decades and was a subordinate to its former chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, who is now serving jail time after he pleaded guilty to tax fraud. McConney appeared more than a half-dozen times before a grand jury about illegal practices at the Trump Organization and he testified at the company's trial late last year that resulted in a conviction on charges it paid certain executives as independent contractors and through under-the-table perks.
A young man playing with a gun pointed it at a 12-year-old boy and opened fire, shooting him in the lobby of a Brooklyn apartment building, police said. The boy was shot in the left shoulder at the apartment building in the Brownsville neighborhood just before 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, police said. A group of eight to 12 youths were "playing or hanging out" in the lobby of the apartment building when the incident occurred, according to police.

A 60-year-old man died after a brawl broke out between spectators at a middle school basketball game in Vermont, according to state police. The fight occurred shortly before 7 p.m. local time Tuesday at a school in Alburgh, located near the Canadian border, according to Vermont State Police. Alburgh school officials confirmed there was a "physical altercation between multiple adults" attending the game between Alburgh and St. Albans City Schools.
The amount of time babies spend watching computer, TV and phone screens in their first year of life may be indirectly linked to lower cognitive skills later in life, according to a new study. Babies who watched on average two hours of screen time per day performed worse later on, at age 9, on executive functions, according to the study, which was published Monday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. Executive functions, linked to long-term academic success, are defined by the study's researchers as "a collection of higher-order cognitive skills essential for self-regulation, learning, and academic achievement, as well as mental health."
A Boston attorney and former colleague of U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts' wife, Jane, has filed a complaint with Congress and the Justice Department alleging her work as a legal recruiter poses a conflict of interest at the Supreme Court. The confidential complaint, first obtained and reported by The New York Times on Tuesday, suggests Jane Roberts' past position as legal recruiter -- helping high-profile firms hire top talent, some of whom later have business before the court -- may present an ethical concern. While she quit her job as a law partner when her husband was confirmed as chief justice in 2005, Jane Roberts made millions of dollars in commissions helping recruit for firms regularly involved in court business, according to the former colleague, Kendal Price, as reported by the Times.
A British auction house is selling some very personal letters written by Princess Diana describing the turbulent times around her divorce from King Charles. The collection, called "Diana, The Private Correspondence of a Princess," is "an extraordinarily poignant collection of correspondence, written by one of the most important and influential women of the 20th century," Lays Auction House says on its website, "and documents one of her most valued and significant friendships during the last 2 years of her life." The letters were written by the princess to Susie and Tarek Kassem between 1995-1996.

Authorities say a 19-year-old woman scammed more than 400 donors, accumulating over $37,000, with false claims that she suffered from cancer, which she had allegedly touted on social media. Madison Russo was charged with theft on Jan. 23, according to the Eldridge Police Department in Eldridge, Iowa. According to the press release, Russo allegedly made false claims including that "she suffered acute lymphoblastic leukemia, stage 2 pancreatic cancer and a tumor the size of a football."
