There is up to 20 hours of additional video footage in the Tyre Nichols case that has yet to be released, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy's office confirmed to ABC News on Thursday. The timing of that release is up to the city of Memphis with the city issuing a statement earlier this week saying any additional video would be released in the "next few weeks." Nichols, 29, died three days after he was beaten by police during an encounter following a traffic stop for reckless driving on Jan. 7.
A woman was seen stealing a Maltipoo puppy and attacking the dog's owner in a violent assault caught on camera in broad daylight. A concerned business owner contacted police after his surveillance cameras captured the robbery at about 12:30 p.m. Monday in Bell Gardens, in the Los Angeles area, according to Bell Gardens police. When the victim tried to grab the puppy back, the suspect "violently assaulted" the Maltipoo's owner and pepper-sprayed the victim in the face, police said.
Twelve squirrel monkeys that were stolen from Zoosiana, a Louisiana zoo, shortly before midnight Saturday remain missing five days later. The thief targeted facilities of smaller primates and "compromised" the squirrel monkey exhibit, successfully stealing 12 from the enclosure, according to zoo officials. The remaining squirrel monkeys were assessed by the zoo's veterinarian and animal care team and there are no apparent issues affecting their health or well-being, Zoosiana said in a statement posted on Facebook.

House Republicans on Thursday voted to kick Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The vote on the resolution was 218-211 -- with one Republican -- Rep. The Department of Justice is in contact with former Vice President Mike Pence's lawyers about scheduling a potential search of his home in Indiana, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. The discussions come after classified documents were found in Pence's Indiana home and turned over to the FBI for review. A lawyer for Pence conducted the search of Pence's home in Indiana last week and found the documents.

On Friday morning, the wind chill is forecast to fall to minus 18 degrees in Chicago. The cold will move into the Northeast Friday morning, with wind chills expected to drop to 0 degrees in Boston, minus 10 degrees in Buffalo and minus 25 degrees in Burlington, Vermont.
The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee wants more information about investigations overseen by the former head of the FBI New York Field Office Charles McGonigal. McGonigal, who was the special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI's New York Field Office, was arrested last month over his alleged ties to Oleg Deripaska, a Russian billionaire who has been sanctioned by the United States and criminally charged last year with violating those sanctions.

There were 87 rhinos killed in 2022 -- 61 black rhinos and 26 white rhinos -- compared to 45 in the previous year, according to new data from Namibia's Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism. Elephant poaching figures however have "steeply" declined, falling from 101 in 2015 to only four in 2022. The House will vote Thursday on a resolution to keep Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has flipped multiple GOP votes in his favor this week, told reporters Wednesday evening the resolution will pass but stopped short of predicting all GOP members will vote in favor. "We’ll have enough votes even though there’s some members who are out," McCarthy said.

Legend has it that if he sees his shadow then winter will continue for another six weeks but if Punxsutawney Phil does not see his shadow spring will come early. Over three years after Pebbles LaDime “Dime” Doe was found dead, the Department of Justice unsealed charges against two men involved in her murder. A South Carolina man was charged with a hate crime for the 2019 murder of Doe in Allendale, South Carolina, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina. The five-count federal indictment alleges that Daqua Ritter, 26, shot Doe on Aug. 4, 2019, “because of her actual and perceived gender identity.”
