The Justice Department on Wednesday unsealed charges against an Iranian national and member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps whom prosecutors say allegedly tried to arrange the murder of Donald Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton in "likely" retaliation for the killing of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani when Trump was president. The criminal complaint against 45-year-old Shahram Poursafi, who remains at large abroad, accuses him of attempting to pay various individuals in the U.S. $300,000 to kill Bolton, beginning in October.
A wildfire is raging at an "unprecedented" rate in the famed wine region south of Bordeaux, France, firefighters said Wednesday. The prefecture of Gironde in southwest France ordered an estimated 10,000 residents to evacuate. "Prepare your papers, the animals you can take with you, some belongings," the Gironde municipality of Belin-Beliet posted on their Facebook before evacuations.
Denise Dowse, best known for her roles in "Insecure" and "Beverly Hills, 90210" is currently in a coma after contracting meningitis, her sister, Tracey Dowse, revealed. "I am requesting support and prayers be offered me and my sister, and my only immediate family @denisedowse," Tracey wrote on the actress' Instagram on Sunday. "She is currently in the hospital in a coma brought on by a virulent form of meningitis," Tracey continued.

Two people are dead and 17 others are injured after a bus overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to state police. The fatal accident took place Tuesday around 6:53 p.m. on the southbound Turnpike just before the Grover Cleveland Service Area, when a double-decker bus overturned and came to a stop on the entrance ramp to the service area, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele told reporters Tuesday night. Fourteen passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the driver and two passengers were seriously injured and four passengers sustained no injuries, police said.

A new bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives three months after a nursing mom had ice packs intended to keep breast milk cold confiscated by airport security. The proposed legislation would amend the Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement (BABES) Act to protect parents and caregivers by requiring the Transportation Security Administration to "clarify and regularly update guidance on handling breast milk, baby formula, and other related nutrition products" and the federal agency would have to develop and update the guidelines with direction from maternal health groups, according to a press release from California Rep. Katie Porter, who is sponsoring the bill.
After several weeks of steady increases in coronavirus infections and hospitalizations, there are encouraging signs that the latest viral resurgence may be abating in the United States. The number of virus-positive Americans currently receiving care in hospitals across the country has plateaued at around 43,000 patients, according to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Hospitalizations, however, remain significantly lower now than during every other COVID-19 surge.
The New Mexico Environment Department filed an administrative complaint against Rust Movie Productions, after the production company had contested citations issued in April alleging hazards on the set that may have led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the "Rust" movie set last October. Hutchins died and the film's director, Joel Souza, was hospitalized after a gun held by Alec Baldwin as a prop fired a live round. NMED issued the citations following a six-month investigation into workplace safety conditions after the shooting.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday enacted legislation that will expand the Department of Veterans Affairs, providing health care support to millions of veterans -- as well as their families and caretakers -- who were exposed to toxic burn pits. Known as the PACT Act, the package grants more time to enroll in VA-provided care for veterans exposed to the toxins while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the White House. "This is the most significant law our nation has ever passed to help millions of veterans who are exposed to toxic substances during their military services," Biden said in remarks during the bill signing ceremony in the White House's East Room.
An 8-year-old boy left paralyzed in the mass shooting at the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, plans to return to school in the fall with his twin brother. The family of Cooper Roberts shared in an update Tuesday that the boy is expected to start third grade at Braeside Elementary School in Highland Park with his brother, Luke, in six to 12 weeks. Cooper is currently in daily physical and occupational therapy at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago.

Forty years after a 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Northern California, DNA has led to the arrest of her suspected killer, prosecutors announced. Karen Stitt was last seen on the night of Sept. 2, 1982, heading toward a Sunnyvale bus stop after spending time with her boyfriend, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said. The next morning, her naked body was found about 100 yards from the bus stop, according to prosecutors.
