Nike is releasing new "Girl Dad" sneakers ahead of Father's Day, in honor of the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his late daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant, both of whom died in a helicopter crash in January 2020. The athletic apparel company's new Kobe 4 Protro "special edition" sneakers are set to be released Friday, according to a product page on Nike's official website. "This special edition of the Kobe 4 Protro pulls inspiration from a courtside moment shared between Kobe and Gigi," stated the product description.
The Georgia Court of Appeals has tentatively scheduled oral arguments on former President Donald Trump's appeal of the Fani Willis disqualification ruling for October, making it almost certain that Trump will not see trial in his Georgia election interference case before the 2024 election. The date for oral arguments on the issue is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 4, according to a docket notice that was sent to defense counsel in the case. "A calendar will be sent to counsel of record confirming the exact date of oral argument," the notice says.
Two handguns and shell casings from a variety of weapons, including an assault-style weapon, were recovered as the investigation continued into a shooting early Sunday in Akron, Ohio, that left one person dead and 24 injured when a birthday party attended by more than 100 people spilled into a street where numerous fights broke out, according to police and witnesses. In addition to the handguns, evidence suggests the incident involved a drive-by shooting that may have prompted partygoers to return fire, Akron Police Chief Brian Harding said at a news conference Sunday night. More than 35 shell casings from multiple weapons were recovered from a block-long crime scene, with some rounds being from an assault-style weapon, police said Sunday night.
The Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency announced the largest ever fine under the Animal Welfare Act on Monday, totaling more than $35 million in criminal fines, donations and costs to upgrade their operations to be paid by a company that surrendered 4,000 beagles from a dog breeding facility in Virginia in 2022. In 2022, the DOJ secured the surrender of more than 4,000 dogs from a facility that bred and sold animals for research, saying the operators failed to meet minimum standards for humane treatment of the animals. "Envigo compounded the heartbreaking nature of its animal welfare crimes by committing egregious Clean Water Act violations that undermined public health and the wellbeing of the animals in their care," David M. Uhlmann, assistant administrator of EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, said in a statement.

President Joe Biden told the emir of Qatar on Monday that Israel is ready to "move forward with the terms" of the hostage and cease-fire deal, according to the White House readout of the call. Biden said that "Hamas is now the only obstacle to a complete ceasefire," and the president "urged [Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani] to use all appropriate measures to secure Hamas’ acceptance of the deal," the White House said.
The first major California wildfire of the year was 75% contained Monday after high winds caused it to spread over the weekend to 14,168 acres, officials said. The Corral Fire is burning in San Joaquin County about 50 miles outside San Francisco, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The fire ignited Saturday around 2:30 p.m. PT near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Altamont Pass area of Northern California's Diablo Range and spread into Stanislaus Stanislaus County, reaching the western edge of Tracy, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Two New York City police officers are recovering from injuries after both were shot early Monday while chasing a moped-riding suspect authorities described as an undocumented migrant from Venezuela. A man in Colorado literally dodged a bullet thanks to his chain, according to police. The victim was wearing a silver chain, about 10 millimeters in width, when he got into an argument with an armed man on Tuesday, according to police in Commerce City, just outside of Denver. The suspect fired, and instead of hitting the victim in the neck, the .22-caliber bullet got lodged in the chain, police said.
