A North Korean official on Sunday vowed that the secretive country would stop floating trash-carrying balloons over the border into South Korea, but warned that the campaign may resume if South Korean groups continued sending leaflets north. Most of the balloons carried garbage, South Korean officials said last week.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, has announced she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. "My doctors have confirmed my diagnosis of pancreatic cancer," Rep. Jackson Lee, 74, said in a statement Sunday night. Due to her upcoming treatments, Jackson Lee said she could occasionally miss legislative votes but she is "committed" to working with House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on legislation that is "critical for the prosperity and security of the American people."

2 subjects taken into custody following Arizona reservation shooting that left officer, civilian dead: FBI
Two subjects have been taken into custody after an officer and a civilian were killed, and another officer and three others were wounded in a shooting incident in the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona early Saturday morning, the FBI said Sunday. Both subjects -- one adult male and one juvenile male -- were identified by the FBI and Gila River Police and taken into custody, authorities said.

NASA has set a new launch date for its first astronaut-crewed flight into space on Boeing's Starliner after scrubbing Saturday afternoon's launch just minutes before it was due to begin. On Sunday, the agency announced that NASA’s Boeing Crew Flight Test Mission teams are preparing to support a launch at 10:52 a.m. ET on Wednesday, June 5, from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. United Launch Alliance, which manufactures and operates the rockets that launch the spacecraft into orbit, worked overnight and on Sunday to assess the ground support equipment at the launch pad that encountered issues during the countdown and scrubbed the June 1 launch attempt.

2 handguns, 35 shell casings recovered in fatal overnight shooting in Akron, Ohio: Police
Authorities in Akron, Ohio, recovered two handguns and shell casings from a variety of weapons, including assault-style, as the investigation into an overnight shooting that left one dead and 25 injured continued Sunday evening. Over 35 shell casings from multiple different weapons were recovered from the scene, with some rounds being from an assault-style weapon, police said Sunday night. 2 firefighters injured as wildfire spreads to 14,000 acres near San Francisco
Two firefighters were injured and more than 100 homes were evacuated as a wind-whipped wildfire spread Sunday to 14,000 acres of mostly dry grassland in Northern California, officials said. The Corral Fire is burning in San Joaquin County, close to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which is about 50 miles outside San Francisco, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. "Areas west of the California Aqueduct, south of Corral Hollow Creek, west to Alameda County and south to Stanislaus County should leave now," San Joaquin emergency officials said late Saturday.

As Hunter Biden goes to trial on gun charges, here's how his attorneys plan to defend a 'simple case'
Federal prosecutors pursuing a conviction of President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden on three felony gun charges have characterized their upcoming trial as "a simple case" -- and the facts presented in charging documents certainly appear to support that claim. According to special counsel David Weiss' office, in October of 2018, Hunter Biden knowingly lied on a federal form about his drug use in order to procure a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver -- conduct that, at face value, would constitute a federal crime. At a recent pretrial hearing, an attorney for Biden suggested the firearm form at the heart of the case was "much more complicated than [the] special counsel indicates it is."

Kirby: US expects Israel to agree to proposal if Hamas does
White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said the United States expects that if Hamas agrees to a recent three-phase proposal to end fighting in Gaza, Israel "would say yes." "It is an Israeli proposal, one that they arrived at after intense diplomacy with their own national security team and over at the State Department," Kirby told "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.

Trump attorney says legal team will appeal conviction, comply with pre-sentence probe
Will Scharf, a member of Donald Trump's legal team, said Sunday that the former president will appeal his conviction on 34 felony counts in New York but will comply with a pre-sentencing investigation in the meantime. Trump's conviction, centered around allegations he covered up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, will be the subject of an investigation from the Probation Department, which will include interviewing Trump. A report following the inquiry's conclusion will provide Judge Juan Merchan with a sentencing recommendation, experts have told ABC News.

Half of Americans think Trump's guilty verdict was correct, should end campaign: POLL
A plurality of Americans, 50%, think former President Donald Trump's guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his hush money trial was correct, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds, and almost as many, 49%, think he should end his 2024 presidential campaign over the result. Trump was found guilty of 34 counts on Thursday in his trial related to falsifying business records regarding a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election in order to keep her quiet about their alleged affair. Forty-seven percent of Americans said they think the charges against Trump in this case were politically motivated, while 38% say they were not.

Chad Daybell sentenced to death in triple murder of family
An Idaho jury sentenced Chad Daybell, the man who was convicted this week for the 2019 murders of his first wife and second wife's two children, to death. Lindsey Blake, the Fremont County, Idaho prosecutor, told reporters she was hopeful the verdict would allow the victims' families and friends a chance to heal. The jury found Daybell guilty on all counts Thursday in what prosecutors said was a plot to pursue "money, power and sex."

Ticketmaster hit by cyber attack that compromised user data
Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, revealed Friday evening that it was the victim of a cyber attack that compromised user data. The company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it discovered an "unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database," on May 20 and promptly launched an investigation.

Before sentencing, the Probation Department will be charged with preparing a pre-sentence investigation, or a probation report, for Merchan, which will include interviewing Trump.
