Jerry Harris, a former star of the popular Netflix docuseries "Cheer," was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to sex crime charges earlier this year. Harris, 22, of Naperville, Illinois, pleaded guilty in February to receiving child pornography and engaging in interstate travel for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 15. Harris faced several other sexual misconduct charges.
Lorena Rebollar Sedano has attended the Highland Park, Illinois, Fourth of July parade for 28 years, but this year's festivities turned to terror when Sedano and her family were caught in the crossfire after a gunman opened fire during Monday's celebration. Sedano told ABC News that she and her family immediately rushed to a nearby store for safety. When she got inside and collected herself, Sedano soon realized that she was hit.
The 21-year-old suspect in the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in suburban Chicago that left seven dead and more than 30 wounded is an aspiring rapper with an apparent trail of violent social media posts that investigators are combing through. Multiple law enforcement officers detained Robert "Bobby" Crimo III at gunpoint following a car chase hours after Monday's massacre in the North Shore town of Highland Park. Investigators are poring over social media posts on numerous platforms, including Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and Discord, which they believe are associated with Crimo.
There were several missed opportunities to stop the massacre at Robb Elementary School before it started, according to a new assessment of the law enforcement response, which provided new details and laid out a number of "key issues" with the way police handled the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, last month. Among the report's findings: A Uvalde City Police officer armed with a rifle spotted the suspected shooter before he entered the school and had him in his gun sights, but he waited for permission from a supervisor, giving the suspect the chance to enter the school. "In this instance, the [Uvalde] officer would have heard gunshots and/or reports of gunshots and observed an individual approaching the school building armed with a rifle," said the assessment.
The parents of a young child were two of the victims in the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. Irina McCarthy, 35, and Kevin McCarthy, 37, were among the seven people killed during Monday's massacre, Highland Park City Manager Ghida Neukrich told ABC News. The couple leaves behind their 2-year-old son, Aiden McCarthy, who was separated from his parents during the shooting.

Virginia police say a "hero citizen" helped prevent a mass shooting allegedly planned at a Fourth of July celebration in Richmond. News of the thwarted attack comes after seven people were killed and dozens more injured in a mass shooting at a July Fourth parade in a Chicago suburb on Monday. "There is no telling how many lives this hero citizen saved from one phone call," Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith told reporters Wednesday.

The Fulton County special grand jury investigating possible criminal interference in Georgia's 2020 elections issued subpoenas Tuesday for Rudy Giuliani, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and several others in former President Donald Trump's orbit. Eric Holder has been convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of rapper Nipsey Hussle. Aaron Jansen, Holder's attorney, told ABC News that there was "deep disappointment" about the conviction. "It was always going to be tough given the high profile circumstances surrounding the case," Jansen said.

A three-day internal disciplinary hearing was held for Cleveland Brown quarterback Deshaun Watson, who could face up to a season-long suspension from the league, after he was accused of sexual assault by nearly two dozen women. A 16-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after he helped rescue four people when a car drove off a boat launch and into a Mississippi river. The incident happened Sunday at around 2:30 a.m., when the car, which had three teenage girls inside, drove into the Pascagoula River in Moss Point, floated about 20 feet away from shore and started sinking, the Moss Point Police Department said in a statement. Corion Evans, 16, said he immediately ran over, took off his shoes and shirt and went into the water when he saw the car sinking and heard the three occupants shouting for help.

Popular e-cigarette manufacturer Juul Labs, Inc. has been left in limbo after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it is temporarily pausing a ban on the company’s products. The federal health agency announced Tuesday on Twitter that it was issuing an administrative stay because "there are scientific issues unique to the Juul application that warrant additional review." This means the ban of Juul’s products is temporarily suspended, not rescinded.
A doting grandfather who immigrated from Mexico to give his family a better life, a former preschool teacher who was a faithful member of her synagogue and two parents on a fun outing with their toddler were among the six people gunned down at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, a leafy suburban Chicago town that according to FBI statistics hadn't had a previous murder in more than 20 years. In a statement, the North Shore Congregation Israel described Sundheim as a "beloved" staff member who spent her early days teaching preschool and her entire life worshipping at the synagogue.
