There have been at least 105 reported tornadoes across the country since Monday, as severe weather continued Friday in parts of the South. There were at least five reported tornadoes Thursday across Iowa, Missouri, Georgia and Mississippi. A tornado warning was issued in Tallahassee in Leon County on Friday morning, with "multiple circulations and radar-confirmed tornadoes," according to the National Weather Service.

Northern lights could be seen as far south as Alabama this weekend: NOAA
Americans across the country may get a chance to see the northern lights this weekend. A series of solar flares and "explosions" from the sun may lead to geomagnetic storms that "can also trigger spectacular displays of aurora on Earth" from Friday evening through the weekend, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center said on Thursday. Because the geomagnetic storms are severe, Americans in many of the northern states and some in the lower Midwest will likely see the aurora borealis.

Former Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt alleged in an eight-page resignation letter obtained by ABC News on Friday that the Miss USA Organization cultivated a toxic work environment that led to her decision to step down. Voigt resigned her title Monday, citing mental health. "There is a toxic work environment within the Miss USA organization that, at best, is poor management and, at worst, is bullying and harassment," Voigt wrote in the letter, in part.

2 skiers dead in Utah avalanche; 1 digs himself out: Police
Two skiers were killed and a third was hospitalized following an avalanche on Utah's Lone Peak Thursday, according to the Unified Police Department of Salt Lake City. The skiers were believed to have been buried by an avalanche in the backcountry, according to police. The deceased victims were described as two men, ages 32 and 23 years old, Sgt. Aymee Race told reporters.

Steve Bannon's contempt of Congress conviction upheld by appeals court
A federal appeals court upheld the criminal conviction of ex-Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon for defying a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt in October 2022, but U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols agreed to postpone the jail term while Bannon appealed the decision. "We conclude that none of the information sought in the trial subpoenas was relevant to the elements of the contempt offense, nor to any affirmative defense Bannon was entitled to present at trial," the three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals said in its opinion Friday.

Woman uses self-checkout to steal more than $60,000 of items from same Target store over span of a year
A woman in California has been convicted of stealing over $60,000 worth of merchandise over a span of more than 100 visits to the same Target store in San Francisco, officials said. Aziza Graves, a 43-year-old woman from San Francisco, allegedly entered the Target location at the Stonestown Galleria on dozens of occasions over the span of more than a year between Oct. 3, 2020 and Nov. 16, 2021, and managed to steal merchandise with a total value in excess of $60,000, according to a statement from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office last Friday.
