The 2023 Oscars are here, and this year's champagne-toned carpet is in full effect.
Celebrities brought out their biggest, brightest and fiercest looks for the celebratory affair. A-listers donned everything from modernized styles that made everyone do a double-take to elegant classics and everything in between.
There were unforgettable looks from Jamie Lee Curtis who wore a dazzling Dolce & Gabbana dress as well as Rihanna who turned heads in a black Alaïa dress that featured a sheer panel revealing her growing baby bump.

Persistent rains and destructive flooding continue to wreak havoc in Brazil, with officials saying rising river levels signal further damage in the Rio Grande do Sul region. As of Tuesday, 149 people were confirmed dead in the flood-stricken southern state, with 124 individuals still unaccounted for, according to civil defense officials. In total, local agencies say 2.1 million people have been directly affected by the ongoing climate crisis in Rio Grande do Sul.
Eight teenagers got "acutely ill" and were transported to the hospital after ingesting marijuana edibles during a field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, authorities said. An on-site security officer found the sickened male and female students and called 911 around 2:30 p.m. PT Tuesday, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. "LAFD Paramedics arrived quickly to determine each had an altered level of consciousness, following their reported ingestion of cannabis edibles," LAFD said in a statement.
Across two days of testimony in former President Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial, former Trump attorney Michael Cohen detailed Donald Trump's extensive involvement in an alleged scheme to hide negative information about himself from voters in the run-up to the 2016 election. Cohen's cross-examination quickly became combative, with defense attorney Todd Blanche highlighting Cohen's animosity for his former boss, who Cohen has called a "boorish cartoon misogynist," a "Cheeto-dusted cartoon villain," and a "dictator douchebag." The cross-examination focused on Cohen's actions and remarks since being released from prison in 2020, leaving the more substantive cross-examination about Cohen's conduct related to the case for Thursday, when the proceedings resume.
The shipping vessel that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March experienced two power blackouts while docked, 10 hours before the collision that toppled part of a bridge span, according to a preliminary report released Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). In addition to two power losses while the ship was in port, there were two power failures in the moments leading up to the crash, causing the ship's main to shut down, according to the NTSB. The crew was unable to regain propulsion before it slammed into the bridge, the report said.
Joan Vassos will search for love on the debut season of "The Golden Bachelorette" this fall. Vassos was announced as the franchise's first Golden Bachelorette during the Disney Upfront 2024 presentation on Tuesday. The school administrator from Rockland, Maryland, was previously featured on "The Golden Bachelor" last year before leaving the show due to a family emergency.
Although the Biden administration won't admit it, new tariffs on China announced Tuesday represent a major shift for President Joe Biden. Back in 2019, Biden slammed then-President Donald Trump's move to impose tariffs on $300 billion worth of Chinese imports.
Former President Donald Trump is on trial in New York City, where he is facing felony charges related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump last April pleaded not guilty to a 34-count indictment charging him with falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment his then-attorney Michael Cohen made to Daniels in order to boost his electoral prospects in the 2016 presidential election. Speaking to reporters after exiting the courtroom, former President Trump was asked about today's testimony, as well as if he plans to testify during the trial.
The Albuquerque Police Department was put on notice nine years ago by the United States Department of Justice. A federal court ordered a third-party monitor to watch and report back on how the then-troubled department operated. Police leadership and officers were told by the court they had to make changes to how they were operating.
Eight people were killed when a bus carrying about 53 farmworkers was hit by a truck and overturned on West Highway 40 in central Florida, according to state officials. The truck driver, Bryan Maclean Howard, was arrested on eight counts of driving under the influence-manslaughter, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Thirty-eight people were hurt, eight of whom are in critical condition and 30 who have non-life-threatening injuries, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.
A baby who spent nearly the first six months of her life hospitalized after weighing just over 1 pound at birth spent her first night ever at home Monday. Nyla Brooke Haywood left Silver Cross Hospital in Illinois on Monday to celebratory cheers from "Nyla Nation," the name given to the medical staff who have cared for Nyla since her birth last year. Nyla was born just 22 weeks into her mother Nakeya Haywood's pregnancy, according ABC Chicago affiliate WLS-TV.
An acrimonious divorce between a Texas couple fighting over their frozen embryos could end up having an impact on in vitro fertilization care in the entire state, and possibly a replay of the controversial court decision in Alabama that briefly ended IVF access in the state. Caroline Antoun has argued that life begins when an egg is fertilized and claims the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization -- which overturned Roe v. Wade and left it up to the states to regulate abortion care -- gives her a right to "custody" over their three embryos, despite previously signing over her rights to the embryos to her husband in the event of a divorce. In August 2022, a trial court judge ruled the embryos should be considered "property" and awarded them to the husband -- Gaby Antoun -- and upheld the agreement between the former couple.
A pod of killer whales attacked and sunk a yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar, between Spain and Morocco, officials confirmed to ABC News. Two people were on board the vessel when the incident occurred Sunday at 9 a.m. local time, according to Spain's maritime authority. The nearly 50-foot yacht, named The Alboran Cognac, was 15 miles from Cabo Espartel in Morocco when an unknown number of orcas began ramming it.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Tuesday, promised the U.S. will quickly deliver badly needed arms, touting Washington and the West's alliances with Kyiv. Blinken is the first senior U.S. official to visit since Congress, after months of dispute, in April passed and President Joe Biden signed a $60 billion aid package that includes artillery and other weapons systems vital to Ukraine's defense. After meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, America's top diplomat told an audience of Ukrainians "you are not alone," but acknowledged that "delay" in approving new arms "left you vulnerable to Russian attacks."
The Ukrainian border city of Vovchansk has been nearly destroyed, a local official said Tuesday, as heavy fighting continues in the region days after Russia launched a new northeast offensive. "The situation in Vovchansk is critical," Tamaz Hambarashvili, the head of the city administration, said during a national telethon on Tuesday. Vovchansk is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces but there is a shooting battle as small groups of Russian soldiers attempt to enter the outskirts of the city, Hambarashvili said.
King Charles III marked another first in his reign this week, unveiling the first official portrait of himself since his coronation last year. Charles and his wife Queen Camilla were on hand Tuesday as the king's portrait was unveiled at Buckingham Palace. The portrait, which stands over 6 feet tall, was painted over the course of three years by Jonathan Yeo, a U.K.-based artist, according to the palace.
Hannah Gutierrez has appealed her conviction of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Alec Baldwin film "Rust." Gutierrez, the film's armorer, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, the maximum, in connection with the October 2021 shooting. The Santa Fe, New Mexico, County jury deliberated for under three hours on March 6 before reaching a split verdict.
As the Israel-Hamas war crosses the seven-month mark, renewed negotiations are underway to secure the release of hostages taken by the terrorist organization, as Israeli forces continue to prepare for an apparent invasion of the southern Gazan town of Rafah. About 450,000 Palestinians have been displaced from Rafah, fleeing to safety, according to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The Israeli military said it had hit 120 targets in the last 24 hours.
Kelly Clarkson is opening up about her recent weight loss, sharing that a moment where she did not recognize herself on screen prompted her to make changes. During an interview with Whoopi Goldberg on a recent episode of her talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," the singer said she was watching a taped performance of herself singing and didn't recognize herself on the TV screen. A closer look at tree rings is adding to the growing list of evidence that shows unprecedented temperatures measured on Earth over the past year. The summer of 2023 was the warmest in the Northern Hemisphere extra-tropical regions -- from about New Orleans to the North Pole -- in the past 2,000 years, according to a study published in Nature on Tuesday. Land temperatures in this section of the Northern Hemisphere were 2.07 degrees Celsius -- or about 3.73 degrees Fahrenheit -- higher in the summer of 2023 than instrumental averages between 1850 and 1900, researchers discovered after combining measurements from thousands of meteorological stations to analyze the June-through-August surface air temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere's extra-tropical region, which include 30 to 90 degrees north, according to the study.
As residents of Buffalo, New York, commemorate two years since a self-professed white supremacist gunned down 10 Black people at a grocery store, the final design for a permanent memorial has been unveiled to honor those killed in what President Joe Biden on Tuesday called "an unconscionable act of racial hatred." The memorial, titled "Seeing Us," is comprised of 10 arching interconnected pillars inscribed with the names of the people killed in the attack at a Tops store on Buffalo's East Side. The project will include a new building, which New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said will serve as a central hub for education, exhibitions and other community events.
