    Twelve people were injured after a floor collapsed during a party at an off-campus apartment near Indiana University of Pennsylvania Saturday night, the Pennsylvania State Police said. Reports of a floor collapse first came in at about 11:51 p.m. Saturday night from an apartment on the second floor of the Elm by Traverse Commons complex in White Township, Pennsylvania, Trooper Cliff Greenfield said. The complex is about a mile away from IUP's campus, according to Traverse Commons' website.

  • 'Totally disgraced': Trump lashes out at 2024 rivals, possible indictment at Waco campaign rally

    Former President Donald Trump addressed his supporters in Texas on Saturday as he faces a possible indictment. "If we don't win this next election, 2024, I truly believe our country is doomed," Trump said. The rally at Waco Regional Airport was billed by his team as the first of his 2024 campaign, though he's held smaller events in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina since launching his White House bid back in November.

  • Actor Jonathan Majors arrested for assault, his spokesperson denies wrongdoing

    Actor Jonathan Majors was arrested Saturday morning in New York and charged with strangulation, harassment and assault, police said. New York City police said officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 11:00 a.m. for an alleged domestic dispute at an apartment in the city's Chelsea neighborhood. Officers placed Majors, 33, into custody without incident, the NYPD said.

  • At least 26 dead as 'destructive' tornado, storms batter Mississippi, Alabama

    A deadly tornado outbreak and strong thunderstorms swept across Mississippi and Alabama late Friday, with one long-track twister leaving a trail of destruction for more than 90 miles, local and federal authorities said. At least 25 people have died in Mississippi. Search and rescue operations were underway in Sharkey and Humphreys counties, Mississippi's Emergency Management Agency said.

    Search and rescue operations are underway after a devastating tornado outbreak hit Mississippi and Alabama late Friday. Sharkey County in western Mississippi, including the town of Rolling Fork, was particularly hard-hit. Jourdan Hartshorn, the Mississippi coordinator for the volunteer organization United Cajun Navy, told ABC News that most of the buildings in Rolling Fork were damaged or destroyed.

    Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has completed inpatient physical therapy and will continue recovering at home for the next few days, according to a statement from his office. McConnell, 81, was in physical therapy recovering from a concussion and a fractured rib following a fall earlier this month in Washington, D.C.

    Two Cuban migrants landed at Key West International Airport on a motorized hang glider Saturday morning, authorities said. No serious injuries were reported, authorities said. The sheriff's office and Chief Patrol Agent Walter Slosar shared images of the powered hang glider following the incident.

  • Dozens injured in violent clash between French police, demonstrators at anti-reservoir protest

    More than two dozen people were reportedly injured on Saturday as police clashed with environmental activists protesting a giant agricultural irrigation reservoir being built in rural western France. Thousands of protesters gathered in the district of Sainte-Soline to demonstrate against the construction of "mega-basins" used for agricultural irrigation. Video footage from the demonstration showed protesters advancing toward a construction area in clouds of tear gas, as police vehicles burned and people hurled projectiles.

  • Mississippi tornado: How to prepare for a disaster

    Devastating tornadoes tore through Mississippi on Friday night, leaving at least 25 dead, dozens injured and countless others in the South unsure of how to prepare for the coming storm. In addition to the devastating tornadoes that hit Mississippi, severe storm systems continued to move east on Saturday, hitting Alabama over the weekend -- and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is warning the Southeastern United States could suffer more damages before the weekend's up. "Scattered severe thunderstorms should occur Sunday through Sunday night from far east Texas into parts of the lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast," the agency wrote Saturday afternoon.

  • 'Leveled': Responders, residents describe horror of Mississippi tornado destruction

    The strong and deadly tornado cut eastward across the state, destroying homes and ruining infrastructure. In an interview with "GMA" on Saturday, Edgar O'Neal, a storm chaser who was on the ground in Rolling Fork, described the scene as "complete and utter devastation." One Rolling Fork resident told WAPT that residents lost a lot more than their homes.

  • 17 migrants found trapped in train car in Texas, 2 dead: Officials

    Two migrants died and at least a dozen more were injured after becoming trapped in a train car in Uvalde County, Texas, police said Friday. Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told ABC News that a total of 17 people were trapped in the container. The victims included 15 men and two women, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations.

  • High interest rates hammer consumers seeking mortgage or car loans

    The banking crisis that erupted earlier this month elicited some predictions of a halt in interest rate hikes, since previous borrowing cost increases garnered blame for the financial distress. Instead, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday imposed another hike, extending a yearlong blitz of rate increases that risks further banking woes and squeezes a different group: consumers in need of a loan. The supercharged rate hikes have ballooned loan costs for mortgages, car loans and credit cards, weighing on the budgets of U.S. households or forcing them to delay buying big-ticket items.

  • Gordon Moore, co-founder and former chairman of Intel, dies at 94

    Gordon Moore, the co-founder and former chairman of tech giant Intel, died Friday at the age of 94, the company and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced. A press release stated Moore died "surrounded by family" in Hawaii. Moore and Robert Noyce founded Intel in 1968.

  • Los Angeles public school district, service workers reach bargaining agreement

    The Los Angeles public school district reached a "historic" agreement with its Service Employees International Union Local 99 on Friday, the district announced. The tentative agreement comes after the union's members -- which include bus drivers, cafeteria workers and special education assistants -- went on strike for three days this week. The teachers union also honored the service union's picket lines, forcing the Los Angeles Unified School District to cancel classes for 420,000 students for Tuesday through Thursday.

  • House Republicans tour DC jail where Jan. 6 defendants held

    Republican members of the House Oversight Committee and two Democrats toured a Washington, D.C., jail on Friday where some Jan. 6 defendants are being held. The congressional delegation was led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., one of the most vocal critics of the detainment of individuals charged in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Speaking with ABC News earlier this week, Greene said the visit would focus on the conditions of those being jailed, including what Greene claimed to be "reports of abuse."

  • Additional attacks on American bases in Syria Friday after US retaliatory airstrikes on Iranian-backed groups

    A U.S. official told ABC News that there were two new attacks late Friday on two U.S. facilities in Deir ez-Zor Province in eastern Syria after another one earlier in the day and a drone attack on Thursday that prompted retaliatory U.S. airstrikes that targeted Iranian-backed militias believed responsible. The official said that two of the three drones that targeted one U.S. facility were shot down, but one drone made it through. The official said that five rockets were fired at another U.S. facility where the American service member was wounded.

  • Biden meets with Trudeau as US, Canada announce immigration agreement

    President Joe Biden and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced a new migration deal as part of Biden's first visit to America's northern neighbor. The new agreement will allow Canada to send migrants who cross at unofficial ports of entry at America's northern border back to the U.S., a change to the Safe Third Country Agreement long-sought by Canada. The U.S. will also be able to turn back asylum seekers who travel across the border from Canada.

  • Dangerous tornado outbreak heads to the South: Latest forecast

    A dangerous tornado outbreak is headed to the South, where intense, long-track tornadoes reaching EF-3 or higher are possible Friday evening. A radar-confirmed "large and destructive" tornado was located around 8:22 p.m. CT about 12 miles northeast of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, moving northeast at 50 mph, the National Weather Service said late Friday. The NWS issued emergency warnings for several towns in the northwest part of the state, including Midnight and Silver City.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow testifies in ski crash trial

    Gwyneth Paltrow has taken the stand in the civil trial for a ski accident that occurred more than seven years ago. Paltrow testified Friday about the details of the accident, which occurred on Feb. 26, 2016. The Academy Award-winner and Goop CEO said that the accident allegedly happened at the top of a run called Bandana at Deer Valley Ski Resort in Utah.

  • American couple being held at ransom in Haiti, family says: 'We told them not to go'

    An American couple visiting Haiti is being held at ransom after being kidnapped from a bus nearly a week ago, according to their family. Jean-Dickens Toussaint and his wife, Abigail Toussaint, of Tamarac, Florida, were in Haiti to see ailing relatives and attend a community festival when they were kidnapped Saturday while traveling on a bus from Port-au-Prince, their family said. A family friend who met the couple at the airport to escort them was also kidnapped, their niece, Christie, who declined to give her last name, told ABC Miami affiliate WPLG.
