Republicans poised to grill Anthony Fauci over COVID-19 response, origins
House Republicans are poised to grill Dr. Anthony Fauci at a hearing on Monday as lawmakers continue to scrutinize his response to the COVID-19 pandemic and examine theories of the origin of the virus. Ahead of the hearing, Republicans on the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic requested access to Fauci's personal email account and cellphone records after obtaining information they claim calls into question whether the nation's former top infectious disease expert may have tried to keep some records out of the public eye. Fauci previously proclaimed that he has "nothing to hide" and is coming before the panel voluntarily.

Dangerous heat wave headed toward California, Arizona, Las Vegas
A dangerous and possibly record-breaking heat wave is heading toward the West this week, impacting California, Arizona and southern Nevada, including Las Vegas. An excessive heat warning begins on Tuesday for the California Valley region, with temperatures up to 108 degrees possible from Redding to Sacramento to Fresno to Bakersfield. On Wednesday, an excessive heat warning will reach from Las Vegas to the Lake Havasu City, Arizona, region.

Hunter Biden gun trial updates: Jill Biden in attendance as jury selection set to begin
President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden is on trial in Delaware on three felony charges related to his efforts to obtain a firearm in 2018 while allegedly addicted to drugs. The younger Biden, who pleaded not guilty last September after being indicted by special counsel David Weiss, has denied the charges. The son of a sitting president has never before faced a criminal trial.

Whole, fresh cucumbers sold in 14 states recalled due to possible salmonella
Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. announced with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it is recalling whole cucumbers due to the potential for them to be contaminated with salmonella. "The recall was initiated after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture informed the company that a product sample tested positive for the bacteria," the recall stated. "The FDA is conducting whole genome sequencing to determine if this sample is related to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak investigation."

As Hunter Biden goes to trial on gun charges, here's how his attorneys plan to defend a 'simple case'
Federal prosecutors pursuing a conviction of President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden on three felony gun charges have characterized their upcoming trial as "a simple case" -- and the facts presented in charging documents certainly appear to support that claim. According to special counsel David Weiss' office, in October of 2018, Hunter Biden knowingly lied on a federal form about his drug use in order to procure a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver -- conduct that, at face value, would constitute a federal crime. At a recent pretrial hearing, an attorney for Biden suggested the firearm form at the heart of the case was "much more complicated than [the] special counsel indicates it is."

A $1 billion proposal for Massachusetts to become a global leader in climate technology by Gov. When Brian Arevalo arrived at immigration court earlier this year, the stakes -- possible deportation -- could not have been higher. "Did you find an attorney?" Judge Dinesh Verma asked him. Arevalo, now 18, shook his head no. He had been searching in vain for legal representation for months -- one of tens of thousands of unaccompanied young migrants representing themselves before federal immigration judges, and one of dozens who appeared before Judge Verma that day in Hyattsville, Maryland.

A North Korean official on Sunday vowed that the secretive country would stop floating trash-carrying balloons over the border into South Korea, but warned that the campaign may resume if South Korean groups continued sending leaflets north. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, has announced she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. "My doctors have confirmed my diagnosis of pancreatic cancer," Rep. Jackson Lee, 74, said in a statement Sunday night. Due to her upcoming treatments, Jackson Lee said she could occasionally miss legislative votes but she is "committed" to working with House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on legislation that is "critical for the prosperity and security of the American people."

2 subjects taken into custody following Arizona reservation shooting that left officer, civilian dead: FBI
Two subjects have been taken into custody after an officer and a civilian were killed, and another officer and three others were wounded in a shooting incident in the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona early Saturday morning, the FBI said Sunday. Both subjects -- one adult male and one juvenile male -- were identified by the FBI and Gila River Police and taken into custody, authorities said.

NASA has set a new launch date for its first astronaut-crewed flight into space on Boeing's Starliner after scrubbing Saturday afternoon's launch just minutes before it was due to begin. On Sunday, the agency announced that NASA’s Boeing Crew Flight Test Mission teams are preparing to support a launch at 10:52 a.m. ET on Wednesday, June 5, from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. United Launch Alliance, which manufactures and operates the rockets that launch the spacecraft into orbit, worked overnight and on Sunday to assess the ground support equipment at the launch pad that encountered issues during the countdown and scrubbed the June 1 launch attempt.

2 handguns, 35 shell casings recovered in fatal overnight shooting in Akron, Ohio: Police
Authorities in Akron, Ohio, recovered two handguns and shell casings from a variety of weapons, including assault-style, as the investigation into an overnight shooting that left one dead and 25 injured continued Sunday evening. Over 35 shell casings from multiple different weapons were recovered from the scene, with some rounds being from an assault-style weapon, police said Sunday night. 2 firefighters injured as wildfire spreads to 14,000 acres near San Francisco
Two firefighters were injured and more than 100 homes were evacuated as a wind-whipped wildfire spread Sunday to 14,000 acres of mostly dry grassland in Northern California, officials said. The Corral Fire is burning in San Joaquin County, close to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which is about 50 miles outside San Francisco, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. "Areas west of the California Aqueduct, south of Corral Hollow Creek, west to Alameda County and south to Stanislaus County should leave now," San Joaquin emergency officials said late Saturday.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said the United States expects that if Hamas agrees to a recent three-phase proposal to end fighting in Gaza, Israel "would say yes." Trump attorney says legal team will appeal conviction, comply with pre-sentence probe
Will Scharf, a member of Donald Trump's legal team, said Sunday that the former president will appeal his conviction on 34 felony counts in New York but will comply with a pre-sentencing investigation in the meantime. Trump's conviction, centered around allegations he covered up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, will be the subject of an investigation from the Probation Department, which will include interviewing Trump. A report following the inquiry's conclusion will provide Judge Juan Merchan with a sentencing recommendation, experts have told ABC News.

A plurality of Americans, 50%, think former President Donald Trump's guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his hush money trial was correct, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds, and almost as many, 49%, think he should end his 2024 presidential campaign over the result. Trump was found guilty of 34 counts on Thursday in his trial related to falsifying business records regarding a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election in order to keep her quiet about their alleged affair. Forty-seven percent of Americans said they think the charges against Trump in this case were politically motivated, while 38% say they were not.

A state of emergency was declared in Atlanta on Saturday evening following two water main breaks, Mayor Andre Dickens announced at a press conference. The massive disruption was reported Friday evening, resulting in a boil water advisory from the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management.
