If you’ve ever dreamed of cruising the streets in a childhood classic, Little Tikes' Cozy Coupe toy car, then a bid on eBay of around $33,000 could make your dream come true.
The “Big Tike,” a real-life replica of the Cozy Coupe, complete with a red body and pitched yellow rooftop, is now up for sale on the auction site.
The car is the brainchild of brothers John and Geof Bitmead, who took a Daewoo Matiz car and modified it to look like the Little Tikes' classic. The “Big Tike,” however, can reach speeds of up to 70 mph and comes equipped with an airbag, headlights and mirrors.
The brothers built the car through their Bicester, U.K.-based company, Attitude Autos, in 2013 and then watched it go viral after it was featured on the BBC. The brothers note in the eBay listing that the car, which took them 16 weeks to refashion, is not “the fastest car on the planet,” but has been “the most incredible fun.”
The car was intended to be sold on the market but did not bring in enough revenue, leading the brothers to auction the two-seater on eBay, they told the BBC this week.
“We were hoping it would be out on a regular basis, create some revenue and recoup the money used to build it," Geof Bitmead told the BBC. "But in real life it ended up going out four or five times in two years. So we thought we might as well sell it and if anyone's interested in buying it that will bring back some money for us."
