All eyes were on the Capitol for the presidential inauguration on Wednesday, but while Americans witnessed one of the most multicultural and modern moments in the nation's history, they couldn't ignore the style that came with it. Known for breaking norms, the first and second families wore bold colors, chic monochromatic outfits and introduced new cultural trends on the highest political stage in America. This inauguration represented more than style but rather statements articulated perfectly for the momentous occasion.
The House will deliver the impeachment article against former President Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday, formally launching trial proceedings next week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor Friday. Schumer's announcement comes after a request from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay the trial until February and give Trump and his still-forming legal team time to prepare a defense.
Governors and state health officials are facing a frustrating reality as they try to make more people eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine: They can vaccinate only as many people as there are doses and the supply is falling short of demand. Health experts say speeding up vaccinations is critical to stopping the rapid spread of the virus, especially before new variants make the crisis worse. "The amount of vaccine that comes into the state and is available to put into people's arms is solely a federal solution," Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said.
Prince Harry is doubling down on his calls to reform social media two weeks after an angry mob staged a deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol. Many who laid siege to the Capitol did so on the erroneous belief that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, a conspiracy theory that spread quickly on social media, experts say. "There was a literal attack on democracy in the United States, organized on social media, which is an issue of violent extremism."
The Biden administration this week announced a 100-day pause on deportations of most people living in the country illegally along with a new priority system for those who will still be subject to removal. Immigrants already in the U.S. who pose a national security or public safety risk including anyone convicted of an "aggravated felony" are also a top priority under the new department-wide guidance.
At this year's 2021 presidential inauguration, it's no secret that fashion took center stage. Bernie Sanders' cozy mittens.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressed outrage Friday at images of National Guard members, sent from around the country to secure the Capitol, resting and sleeping in nearby parking garages. "I have told those who run the security at the Capitol that it can never happen again," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor Friday. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell echoed Schumer's sentiment.

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Lloyd Austin on Friday took over as the first black Pentagon chief shortly after being confirmed 93-2 by the Senate. Austin was greeted outside the Pentagon with an elbow bump by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley before heading inside to be sworn in and begin his first day as defense secretary, leading a military that is now nearly 17 percent African American. "I look forward to working with you, see you around campus," Austin said to reporters, ignoring questions.
Yeah, yeah ding-dong, the witch is dead some will say, but Dorothy’s adventures have only just begun -- or in the case of America, President Joe Biden still has to govern. And while he doesn’t need to be a wizard per se, it’s going to take a bit of magic to get a significant segment of the population to believe in facts and truth again. Sen. Ted Cruz kicked off his 2024 campaign by accusing Biden of being “more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh," an Inauguration Day tweet in response to Biden’s decision to re-enter the Paris Agreement. Of course Cruz, the Texas Republican, knows the real reason why the global climate change initiative is called that.
