Former President Donald Trump is on trial in New York City, where he is facing felony charges related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump last April pleaded not guilty to a 34-count indictment charging him with falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment his then-attorney Michael Cohen made to Daniels in order to boost his electoral prospects in the 2016 presidential election. Defense attorney Emil Bove asked Stormy Daniels' and Karen McDougal's former attorney Keith Davidson about his 2016 effort to negotiate a payment on behalf of McDougal, who was ultimately paid $150,000 by the National Enquirer so the publication could "catch and kill" her story.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have finalized their divorce, a source confirmed to "Good Morning America." The news comes just over eight months after Asghari filed the petition for dissolution of marriage in Los Angeles on August 16, 2023, after just 14 months of marriage. In the court filings, the Iranian-born fitness model and actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and listed the date of separation as July 28, 2023.
President Joe Biden on Thursday spoke from the White House on college protests happening across the nation in connection with the Israel-Hamas war. "We've all seen images, and they put to the test two fundamental American principles," Biden said from the Roosevelt Room. It marked the first time Biden directly addressed the issue since his brief comments to reporters on April 22, before the escalation of suspensions and arrests at several campuses.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office in Burlington, Kentucky, is experiencing a baby boom, with 15 babies born to staffers in the last year. The Kentucky law enforcement agency shared a photo celebrating the new generation of families in a Facebook post April 30, which is quickly going viral with over 2,000 likes. Ahead of the upcoming election in November, the popular ride-sharing service Lyft announced a partnership that its CEO said he hopes continues the company's mission to bring more people -- especially younger voters -- to the polls. Lyft CEO David Risher told ABC News in an interview that ahead of the upcoming election, he wanted to increase the company's footprint when it comes to increasing voter turnout. "One of the most important things you can do to keep the community active and engaged is to make sure they have easy access to the polls," Risher said in the company's Washington, D.C., office.
Protests at Columbia University against the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza have been allegedly "co-opted" by what New York City police officials described as professional outside agitators bent on sowing chaos and violence. Top police brass said protesters unaffiliated with Columbia University have been escalating the violence. On Thursday morning, the NYPD said a preliminary analysis of the 282 people arrested Tuesday night at Columbia and the City College of New York 47% were not affiliated with either school.

A dog's pulse, heart rate variability, temperature, respiration and activity are recorded and sent to the PetPace cloud in real-time, according to Asaf Dagan, chief scientist and cofounder of PetPace, the parent company of Animal Alerts, told ABC News.

The focus of Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial is expected to shift Thursday morning from what witnesses are saying in the courtroom to what the former president has said when he leaves. Two days after Judge Juan Merchan held Trump in criminal contempt for nine violations of the limited gag order that prohibits statements about witnesses and others involved in the case, the judge is holding a hearing Thursday to determine whether to hold Trump in contempt again and fine him $4,000 for making four additional out-of-court statements about the jury and known witnesses in the trial.
China is set to launch the first-ever mission, known as Chang'e 6, on Friday to collect rock and soil samples from the far side of the moon. The lunar lander is scheduled to launch by rocket at 3:50 a.m. ET from the China National Space Administration's (CNSA) Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on the island of Hainan, located to the south of China, according to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
At least six people ranging between the ages of 3 to 19-years-old have been shot at an apartment complex in Fort Worth, Texas, police say. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. when the Fort Worth Police Department received a call and responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Las Vegas Trail in the western part of the city, according to a statement from the Forth Worth Police Department early Thursday morning. Officers immediately assisted in providing medical attention with the help of the Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar, authorities said.

The body of a fifth victim of the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse has been recovered. Authorities said the body of Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, 49, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, was recovered on Wednesday. Unified Command salvage teams said its teams had earlier found one of the construction vehicles reported missing when the bridge collapsed in March and notified the Maryland Department of State Police.
Maternal mortality rates in the United States fell in 2022 after at least three years of continuous increases, new federal data shows. In 2022, 817 women in the U.S. died of maternal causes with a rate of 22.3 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, according to the report published early Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics. This is a drop from the 1,205 women that died in 2021 with a rate of 32.9 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births.
The Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Xavier L. Tate Jr. into custody on suspicion of the murder of Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca. Tate Jr. was found Wednesday night in the Chicago suburb of Glendale Heights, Illinois, police said. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said Huesca's death was the result of "an act of unconscionable gun violence in our city."
Dan Schneider filed a defamation lawsuit on Wednesday against the creators of the "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" docuseries. Attorneys for the former television creator, who is featured in the docuseries, which was released in March about what allegedly went on behind the scenes at Nickelodeon in its heyday, has claimed that the filmmakers behind the series "falsely state or imply that Schneider" "sexually abused the children who worked on his television shows." According to the suit, the television creator, who is known for his hit shows like "Zoey 101," "iCarly" and "Drake & Josh" is suing "Quiet on Set" filmmakers Emma Schwartz, Mary Robertson, Warner Brothers Discovery, Inc., Maxine Productions and Sony Pictures Television Inc.

The Commission on Presidential Debates is pushing back against suggestions from the Trump campaign that it move its general debate calendar up -- standing firm in its decision to hold the first broadcast on Sept. 16, 2024. In a statement released on Wednesday, a day after Trump senior campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles released their own statement urging earlier debates, the commission correctly noted that its September event is the earliest it's ever conducted a debate. The previous record was set in 1980, when Republican Ronald Reagan and Independent John Anderson went head-to-head on Sept. 21.
