You don't want to miss these big Labor Day weekend sales

Labor Day may be summer's last hurrah -- but it's also a great time to score some blowout deals.

Historically, Labor Day is known for major sales on summer apparel and outdoor furniture. But according to "Good Morning America" chief business Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis, there are other product categories for which you can find some great deals as well.

Right now, for instance, you might want to keep an eye out for deals on appliances and mattresses.

At the same, Jarvis advised against buying home electronics such as TVs, laptops and tablets, encouraging shoppers to wait to buy those until Black Friday rolls around.

Shoppers should still count on stores to slash prices on summer apparel and other end-of-season clearance regulars. Retailers don't want to be stuck with extra inventory as the holidays approach, Jarvis said.

Body found in home of man who allegedly attempted to shoot pastor during sermon, police say
A church service in Pennsylvania came to a terrifying halt on Sunday when authorities say a man pulled a gun on the pastor and allegedly attempted to shoot him during his sermon. Allegheny County authorities later said they had found a body in the accused's home. A 14-year-old girl was killed and five other teenagers were injured when a shooting erupted Saturday night outside a house party in Buffalo, New York, several blocks from the supermarket where a 2022 mass shooting occurred, according to police. An urgent search remains underway Sunday in Clovis, New Mexico, after police say a 10-month-old baby was abducted, two women were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds -- including the child's mother -- and the mother's 5-year-old child was injured after sustaining a gunshot on the scene. Police issued an Amber Alert for the baby, Eleia Maria Torres, on Friday, which is still active as of Sunday morning. Torres has brown eyes and brown hair, is 28 inches tall and weighs 23 pounds, according to officials.

Mayor Eric Adams defends NYPD response to campus protests
New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Sunday defended the police crackdown on campus protests there, which have become the epicenter of demonstrations around the country against the Israel-Hamas war. "We want to ensure we protect democracy and the right to protest," Adams told ABC News "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl, "but we have an obligation that when those protests reach the point of violence ... we have to ensure that we use a minimum amount of force to terminate what is perceived to be a threat not only by our intelligence, but also the school and college officials." Adams said that the large-scale police intervention seen so far in the city, most notably at Columbia University, resulted from communication between the police and school officials.

A United States Army sergeant and his brother have been charged in a failed murder-for-hire scheme that targeted four individuals, including two juveniles, according to officials. Missing zebra captured after 6 days on the run in Washington state
A missing zebra that was on the run for nearly a week after escaping a trailer in Washington state was corralled this weekend, officials announced Saturday.
