As Keith Urban prepares for Wednesday night's 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards, he's looking back at what made it possible for him to achieve country superstardom.
Speaking on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast on Monday, the "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer tipped his hat to his wife of 14 years, Nicole Kidman, who not only swept him off his feet but helped him become a better man.
"She's just the one. She's the one that I was searching for my whole life, and everything not only changed but had to change in me if I was gonna go that road," said the 52-year-old, who married Kidman in 2006.
Upon realizing Kidman was a one-of-a-kind person, Urban detailed how his nerves really kicked in and inspired him to chase after the Oscar-winning actress.
"It was like the ultimate fork-in-the-road moment in my life, and it was literally, like, you either get this right now or you are never, ever gonna get it right," he explained. "This is your one shot. It felt so obvious."
The former "American Idol" judge attested that, despite being so successful in their respective careers, they manage to keep each other grounded because they always bring out the best in each other.
"There's so many other things that I can bring that help and blossom the family, and protect it, and take care of it and grow it, not just fiscally," Urban described.
He even has a song written exactly about his fairytale romance with the "Big Little Lies" star that appears on his upcoming album, "The Speed of Now Part 1," due Sept. 18.
"There's a song on my album called 'Better Than I Am,'" Urban explained, "which touches on a lot of these things."
