U.S. veterans and families are traveling to Normandy on the northwest coast of France to pay their respects and commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when the U.S. and Allied forces invaded Europe during World War II back on June 6, 1944. American Airlines tracked down the last living World War II veterans and offered to fly them to Normandy, and when the day came earlier this week, there were just 68 heroes who could travel on that flight. The World War II veterans are now between the ages of 96 and 107.

The younger Biden, who pleaded not guilty last October after being indicted by special counsel David Weiss, has denied the charges. The son of a sitting president has never before faced a criminal trial.

As former President Donald Trump continues to falsely claim the 2020 election was stolen from him, those rumored to be in the running to be his vice-presidential nominee have walked a tightrope when asked if they would accept the 2024 results and how they viewed the 2020 election. On the question of whether one's views on the 2020 results and possibly the 2024 elections are a litmus test for potentially being picked as a vice president, Trump told Time magazine he "wouldn't feel good" hiring someone on his campaign who acknowledged President Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Trump has applied this strategy at the Republican National Committee, where the former president has filled the organization with his allies, including his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.
With a jury of six men and six women selected and sworn in, arguments in the gun trial of Hunter Biden get underway Tuesday morning when prosecutors and defense counsel deliver their opening statements. The president's son stands accused of three felony charges related to his efforts to obtain a firearm in 2018, during a time when he was in the throes of drug addiction. Special counsel David Weiss' office has repeatedly called it a "simple case," and prosecutors' opening statement will be their first opportunity to lay out their narrative for jurors.

A New York City couple got the surprise of a lifetime while magnet fishing in Queens -- a safe containing about $100,000. James Kane and Barbi Agostini visited Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens last Friday, tossing their rope fishing line with a powerful magnet on the end into a stream and pulling out a safe. While it was not the couple's first time catching a safe, they had never hooked one with treasure inside, so they contacted the New York Police Department to report their discovery in case it was a part of illegal activity.

Since President Joe Biden's extraordinary move to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding sensitive negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza -- by detailing the terms of the deal on the table -- U.S. officials have launched into a flurry of diplomatic activity to maximize pressure on Hamas to accept the deal and to ensure Israel would stand by it. Despite the hard sell from the administration and Biden's appeal to all sides, the many open questions about the long-term provisions of the proposal may jeopardize its future. On Monday, Biden spoke by phone with the Emir of Qatar -- another critical mediator in the negotiations -- in order to confirm "Israel's readiness to move forward with the terms that have now been offered to Hamas," according to the White House.

While former President Donald Trump's conviction is injecting new uncertainty into this year's White House race, the verdict is also starting to roil potentially equally consequential races: those for key Senate seats. Republican Senate candidates released ads Monday savaging Montana Sen. Jon Tester and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, the chamber's two most vulnerable Democrats this cycle.

Plans for Netanyahu's address come after Congressional big four leaders invited Netanyahu in a joint letter sent Friday.
Dr. Anthony Fauci faced intense scrutiny from House Republicans at a hearing on Monday as lawmakers continue to investigate his response to the COVID-19 pandemic and examine theories of the origin of the virus. Fauci previously proclaimed that he had "nothing to hide" and came before the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic voluntarily. Fauci's appearance on Capitol Hill comes amid a contentious election cycle, with Republicans continuing to hammer him on his response to the virus -- everything from mask mandates to vaccine guidelines and origin possibilities.

Former President Donald Trump's guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his hush-money trial appears to have a majority of independents and "double haters," those who have an unfavorable view of both Trump and President Joe Biden, feeling that the former president should end his bid for the White House, according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos poll -- a number that could have a ripple effect on the election in November. Among independents, 52% said they believed Trump should end his 2024 presidential campaign and within the even more specified group of "double haters," 67% said they felt the same way, according to the ABC News/Ipsos poll published on Sunday. In an election year, the votes of independents as well as those aligned with neither candidate are highly sought after by both campaigns.
