Former President Donald Trump is on trial in New York City, where he is facing felony charges related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump last April pleaded not guilty to a 34-count indictment charging him with falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment his then-attorney Michael Cohen made to Daniels in order to boost his electoral prospects in the 2016 presidential election. Prosecutor Christopher Conroy argued that Trump's remarks about witness Michael Cohen, Trump's former attorney -- including Trump's statements in the courtroom hallway after opening statements last week -- were made to "affect and disrupt" the proceedings at its "most critical time."

Airbnb launches stays at 'Up' house, 'Inside Out' headquarters and more 'Icons'
Airbnb is offering customers an opportunity to stay in famous homes and places such as a re-creation of the "Up" house from Pixar's 2009 animated movie. Photos show the "Up" house, home to the fictional Carl Fredricksen and his late wife Ellie, brought to life with photos of the couple and just like in the movie, held up by 8,000 balloons among the red rocks of Abiquiu, New Mexico. The "Up" house is part of Airbnb's new "Icons" series, launched May 1, with 11 special locations.

Contempt hearing puts renewed focus on Trump's rhetoric about witnesses, jurors in hush money trial
The focus of Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial is expected to shift Thursday morning from what witnesses are saying in the courtroom to what the former president has said when he leaves. Two days after Judge Juan Merchan held Trump in criminal contempt for nine violations of the limited gag order that prohibits statements about witnesses and others involved in the case, the judge is holding a hearing Thursday to determine whether to hold Trump in contempt again and fine him $4,000 for making four additional out-of-court statements about the jury and known witnesses in the trial.

What to know as China attempts to be 1st country to return samples from far side of the moon
China is set to launch the first-ever mission, known as Chang'e 6, on Friday to collect rock and soil samples from the far side of the moon. The lunar lander is scheduled to launch by rocket at 3:50 a.m. ET from the China National Space Administration's (CNSA) Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on the island of Hainan, located to the south of China, according to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

6 people, including 3-year-old, shot at Fort Worth apartment complex
At least six people ranging between the ages of 3 to 19-years-old have been shot at an apartment complex in Fort Worth, Texas, police say. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. when the Fort Worth Police Department received a call and responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Las Vegas Trail in the western part of the city, according to a statement from the Forth Worth Police Department early Thursday morning. Officers immediately assisted in providing medical attention with the help of the Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar, authorities said.

US maternal mortality rates fell in 2022 after 3 years of increases: CDC
Maternal mortality rates in the United States fell in 2022 after at least three years of continuous increases, new federal data shows. In 2022, 817 women in the U.S. died of maternal causes with a rate of 22.3 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, according to the report published early Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics. This is a drop from the 1,205 women that died in 2021 with a rate of 32.9 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births.

Authorities arrest suspect in killing of Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca
The Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Xavier L. Tate Jr. into custody on suspicion of the murder of Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca. Tate Jr. was found Wednesday night in the Chicago suburb of Glendale Heights, Illinois, police said. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said Huesca's death was the result of "an act of unconscionable gun violence in our city."

Presidential debate commission sticks to schedule despite Trump's urging
The Commission on Presidential Debates is pushing back against suggestions from the Trump campaign that it move its general debate calendar up -- standing firm in its decision to hold the first broadcast on Sept. 16, 2024. In a statement released on Wednesday, a day after Trump senior campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles released their own statement urging earlier debates, the commission correctly noted that its September event is the earliest it's ever conducted a debate. The previous record was set in 1980, when Republican Ronald Reagan and Independent John Anderson went head-to-head on Sept. 21.

A 14-year-old suspect is dead following a confrontation with police Wednesday after an active shooter was reported outside a Wisconsin middle school, sources told ABC News. The teen had approached Mount Horeb Middle School with what appeared to be a long gun, the sources said. The suspect was a male student in the Mount Horeb Area School District, according to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.

The Arizona Senate on Wednesday voted to repeal a strict, Civil War-era abortion ban that was recently ruled enforceable by the state Supreme Court. Two Republican senators, T.J. 'Belligerent' man ordered to pay United Airlines $20K for flight diversion: DOJ
A British man who wreaked havoc on a United Airlines flight, forcing the flight crew to divert their landing location, must pay over $20,000 to the airline, prosecutors announced. The charges stem from a March 1 flight that departed from London, when passenger Alexander Michael Dominic MacDonald, 30, "began arguing with his traveling companion and causing a disturbance," according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. "When flight attendants asked MacDonald to be quiet and attempted to calm him, he became belligerent, threatening and intimidating towards them," prosecutors said.
