The creators of the Emmy-winning sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" have tapped Hilary Duff to star in a 10-episode spinoff series for Hulu called, you guessed it: "How I Met Your Father." Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will produce the show with "Younger" star Duff, along with "This Is Us" and "Love, Victor" veterans Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. According to the streaming service, the show will center on Duff's character, Sophie, who is telling her son the tale of how she met his dad: "A story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."
Journalist Susan Page, author of a new biography about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said the speaker is a "master of the inside game of politics" in a Wednesday interview with ABC News' "Powerhouse Politics" podcast. The Department of Homeland Security's inspector general released a report Wednesday saying DHS had the legal authority to deploy agents and officers to Portland, Oregon, last summer but did not have a comprehensive strategy and was "unprepared." DHS deployed Customs and Border Protection agents to Portland, Oregon, in the summer of 2020 to protect the federal courthouse after nights of protests in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder.

Police have identified the the 16-year-old girl who was shot and killed by a police officer Tuesday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus police responded to 911 calls of a disturbance at 4:30 p.m. local time and the shooting happened shortly thereafter. The victim was identified late Tuesday as Ma'Khia Bryant.
A lack of sleep can increase the risk of dementia, a new study has found. Specifically, sleeping less than six hours a night in midlife can raise the risk of dementia -- the loss of cognitive functioning, like thinking, rememberingand reasoning -- by 30%, according to the new study, published Tuesday in the journal Nature Communications. "According to this study, quantity [of sleep] really matters," said Dr. Jennifer Ashton, ABC News chief medical correspondent and a board-certified OBGYN, who was not involved in the study.
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Wednesday that the Justice Department is launching a "pattern or practice" investigation into the Minneapolis police department. "Today, I am announcing that the Justice Department has opened a civil investigation to determine whether the Minneapolis Police Department engages in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional, unlawful policing," he said.
Derek Chauvin’s legal battle is far from over. The nation watched with bated breath on Tuesday as the former Minnesota police officer was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the May 25, 2020, death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Chauvin will have 90 days to appeal the verdict, under Minnesota law, and it could take about a year for the appeal to run its course, according to Paul Applebaum, a Minnesota criminal defense lawyer.

One employee was killed and two others were injured in a shooting allegedly carried out by a "troubled" coworker at an office of a Stop & Shop supermarket in West Hempstead, New York, on Tuesday, police said. An Indonesian submarine with 53 on board is feared missing after the country’s military lost contact with it Wednesday during an early morning torpedo training exercise in the waters north of Bali. The 42-year old German-made submarine, KRI Nanggala-402, is part of the Indonesian Navy’s 2nd Fleet and was taking in naval drills that were supposed to culminate on Thursday. Indonesia’s military chief Marshal Hadi told the local outlets that he has asked Singapore and Australia for assistance, with whom Jakarta has signed submarine rescue agreements with.
