Several mall shootings and flash mob robbery sprees cast a pall on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Three people were shot, including a 10-year-old, and another three suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the subsequent evacuation when gunfire broke out at Southpoint Mall in Durham, North Carolina, Friday afternoon, police said. The child and another male shooting victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a man was in critical condition due to gunshot wounds as of Saturday afternoon, police said.

A New Jersey police officer faces a slew of charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian on a parkway, leaving the scene and then taking the victim's body to his home. Newark Police Officer Louis Santiago, 25, has been charged with reckless homicide, desecrating human remains and other related charges after striking a pedestrian on the Garden State Parkway, according to a statement Thursday from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II. On Nov. 1 around 3 a.m., Santiago allegedly struck the victim with a 2005 Honda Accord he was driving and did not call 911.

The death of a 14-year-old Florida boy whose body was found last week has been ruled a homicide by local police. Ryan Rogers of Palm Beach Gardens was found dead Nov. 16 around 9 a.m. local time near an Interstate 95 overpass by a passerby who spotted the boy's bike lying in the grass. "We now know that Ryan Rogers' death was not an accident, but a deliberate act," the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

Ahmaud Arbery's mother said she is feeling especially thankful this Thanksgiving, after three men were found guilty of his murder. "We finally got justice for Ahmaud," she added. On Wednesday, Travis McMichael, who fatally shot Arbery in February 2020, was convicted by a Glynn County jury on all nine charges, including malice murder and four counts of felony murder.
