Embattled crypto executive Sam Bankman-Fried now faces an additional criminal charge of conspiracy to violate the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, according to a superseding indictment unsealed Tuesday in the Southern District of New York. The new charge brings to 13 the total number of counts Bankman-Fried faces, all stemming from alleged corruption in the operations of the crypto companies he founded: FTX and Alameda Research. Bankman-Fried allegedly agreed to pay $40 million in cryptocurrency to foreign officials in China so they would unfreeze certain trading accounts on two of China's largest crypto exchanges that belonged to Alameda, according to the superseding indictment.
Just as the school week began across the country Monday, news broke that another school shooting was unfolding in the United States. On Monday morning, according to officials, three children and three staff members were shot and killed at the Covenant School, a private Christian school for students in preschool through sixth grade, in Nashville, Tennessee. The deadly shooting is the 131st mass shooting to have taken place so far this year in the U.S., according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more victims are shot or killed, not including the shooter.
A 13-year-old student stabbed four teachers and two other students at a school in São Paulo, Brazil, on Monday, officials said. Elisabete Tenreiro, 71, one of the teachers injured in the attack at Thomazia Montoro public school, later died from a heart attack at University Hospital of São Paulo, officials told ABC News. The teenage suspect, who was not publicly identified, was taken into custody, an official with the São Paulo Governor’s Office said.

A shooter armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun killed three students and three staff members at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday morning, authorities said. A nearby chemical spill in Philadelphia has local residents on high alert, after officials initially recommended that residents use bottled water "out of an abundance of caution." The city of Philadelphia on Monday said the tap water from the Baxter Drinking Water Treatment Plant is safe until "at least through 3:30 p.m. tomorrow." CVS Health Corp announced Monday it would be closing its acquisition of home health care services company Signify Health. The deal, which was originally agreed upon in September 2022, allows retail pharmacy chain to acquire Signify for $30.50 per share for a total value of approximately $8 billion. Signify Health has thousands of employees including physicians, nurse practitioners and other clinicians which provide a "holistic suite of clinical, social, and behavioral services to address an individual's healthcare needs and prevent adverse events that drive excess cost, all while shifting services towards the home," the company said in a press release.

Taylor Swift fans got their day in court on Monday, months after the botched release of tour tickets prompted widespread outcry. A federal court in Los Angeles held a predominantly procedural hearing in a case brought by as many as 340 fans who allege that Live Nation -- and subsidiary company Ticketmaster -- violated antitrust and consumer protection laws. Lawyers for the plaintiffs, John Genga and Jennifer Kinder, were joined by a handful of plaintiffs who flew in from various parts of the U.S., the attorneys said.
