As Republicans around the country continue to rally around false claims of fraud in the 2020 election, two of former President Donald Trump's closest allies who helped push those false claims appeared in court Thursday for the first time as part of a pair of defamation lawsuits filed against them. Former Trump legal team member Sidney Powell and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell appeared in court in Washington, D.C., for a hearing in the billion-dollar defamation lawsuits brought by Dominion Voting Systems, the voting machine company at the center of numerous conspiracy theories related to the election.
Britney Spears apologized to her Instagram followers on Thursday for not being more transparent about the circumstances of her life. The pop star, who on Wednesday pleaded with a judge to end her long-standing conservatorship, explained that she uses the social media platform as an escape from her reality. Spears, 39, has not been in control of her personal or financial affairs since 2008, when a judge put the conservatorship in place.
A new study estimates that life expectancy in the United States decreased by nearly two years from 2018 to 2020, primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic, marking the largest drop since World War II. The study, published this week in the medical journal The BMJ, estimates that from 2018 to 2020, average life expectancy in the U.S. decreased by 1.87 years, from 79 to 77. Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average time a baby born today is expected to live.

The Transportation Security Administration will resume crew member self-defense training in early July. The program was previously paused due to the pandemic and its restart comes amid an increase in unruly passenger incidents on flights. The voluntary training provides flight crew members with techniques "for responding against an attacker in a commercial passenger or cargo aircraft," including self-defense measures and ways to identify and deter potential threats.

At least three people are dead as many as 99 are unaccounted after a 12-story residential building partially collapsed in Miami-Dade County, Florida, early Thursday, a county official told ABC News. China unveiled ambitious plans to send humans to Mars and build a base on the red planet at a recent space exploration conference. Wang Xiaojun, the head of the state-run China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, shared a "roadmap of human Mars exploration" during a virtual lecture at the Global Space Exploration Conference held in Russia this week. Amid more than 300 confirmed cases of heart inflammation in teens and young adults who have received COVID-19 vaccines, the nation's leading health experts say the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines remain safe for use. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday announced it has approved a 30-day extension to the eviction moratorium, prohibiting the eviction of renters who are unable to make payments more than one year after the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the country. The CDC said Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has signed an extension to the eviction moratorium, which was set to expire on June 30, 2021, through July 31, 2021. It's intended to be the final extension of the moratorium, according to a release from the CDC.

Blink-182's bassist/vocalist, Mark Hoppus, revealed on Wednesday that he has been privately battling cancer and receiving chemotherapy. "For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer," Hoppus shared on Twitter. Hoppus, 49, did not reveal the type of cancer or what stage it's at.
