Around 5 a.m., a man was fatally struck by a shuttle bus as he tried to cross a road near the course holding the PGA Championship, according to a statement released by Louisville Metro Police Department. The roadblocks and confusion over the accident allegedly led Scheffler to drive past police who were on site, according to reports from ESPN.

At least four people died Thursday after an "exceptionally" strong storm hit Houston, according to Mayor John Whitmire. The winds -- which reached 78 mph -- sounded like a freight train, Houston residents told ABC News. More than 780,000 customers are without power in Texas on Friday morning.

23-year-old woman killed by rock thrown at her car; no arrests made
Police in North Carolina are searching for the person who threw a rock at a moving car, hitting and killing a 23-year-old woman, authorities said. Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson was driving in Burke County around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when a rock went through her windshield and fatally struck her in the head, North Carolina Highway Patrol said. Ferguson's 2006 Ford Taurus then drove off the road and hit a house, according to the highway patrol.

Paul Pelosi attacker David DePape to be sentenced on federal charges
The man convicted of breaking into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home and attacking her husband Paul Pelosi with a hammer will receive his federal prison sentence on Friday. David DePape was convicted in November 2023 for the Oct. 28, 2022, break-in and attack at the Pelosis' San Francisco home. DePape admitted that he was looking for Nancy Pelosi to question her about Russian influence on the 2016 election and planned to hold her hostage, but only Paul Pelosi was home when he broke in.

"It is absolutely, absurdly, extraordinarily serious what is happening in Rio Grande do Sul right now -- and unfortunately, it will get worse," Brazilian state governor Eduardo Leite said during a press conference at the onset of what has become the most severe climate catastrophe to impact the region. Persistent rains and destructive flooding in the southern Brazilian state have left 150 people dead, 2.1 million affected, 620,000 residents displaced and 807 people injured, according to civil defense officials. The Guaíba River in Porto Alegre, the capital city of Rio Grande do Sul, could reach unprecedented levels of over 18 feet in the coming days, according to local officials.

Infant takes 1st breaths on her own after undergoing rare double lung transplant
A 6-month-old girl born with a life-threatening lung disorder is now breathing on her own thanks to a rare double lung transplant. Kylie Overfield was placed on a ventilator immediately after her birth on Nov. 10, 2023, due to surfactant B deficiency, a rare genetic condition that causes abnormalities in the lining of the lung tissue, making breathing difficult, according to the National Library of Medicine. In Kylie's case, the condition was so severe that doctors feared she wouldn't survive long after her birth, which came on a Friday, according to her mom, Ashley Overfield.

The 30-year-old quadriplegic man who opted to become the first human to receive Elon Musk's Neuralink brain implant chip called "The Link" revealed how the pioneering technology has changed his life. Noland Arbaugh, who became paralyzed from the shoulders down after sustaining a spinal cord injury from diving into shallow water, became the first human participant in Neuralink's clinical trial in January, eight years after his accident. In an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America’s" Will Reeve, Arbaugh said that the device has given him the ability to have nearly full control over using a computer -- using only his thoughts.

The physical toll of the war has been documented in photographs and videos with Gazans suffering from severe injuries, including the loss of limbs, and malnutrition due to the shortage of food and clean water, as well as a "full-blown famine" that has struck northern Gaza.

Law enforcement officers are still looking for two suspects they say committed “archeological theft” at a U.S national park in Utah two days after they asked for help from the public. The incident occurred on March 23 at Canyonlands National Park in Moab, Utah, at the Cave Spring Cowboy Camp in the Needles district of the park at approximately 5:30 p.m. when security cameras captured two people enter “a signed-as-closed area, removed artifacts from a cabinet, and handled historic harnesses in a manner that had potential to damage them,” according to a statement from the National Park Service released on Wednesday. “National parks are some of the most special, treasured, and protected areas of our country,” authorities said.

4 day care workers arrested for lacing children's food with melatonin: Police
A day care owner and three of her employees have been arrested after allegedly sprinkling melatonin on children's food, police say. The incident began in November 2023 when police in Manchester, New Hampshire, received a report alleging "unsafe practices going on in an in-home daycare at 316 Amory Street," which led to a lengthy investigation, according to a statement released by the Manchester Police Department on Thursday. "Through the investigation, police determined that the children's food was being sprinkled with melatonin without their parent's knowledge or consent," authorities said regarding the case.

American doctors uncertain how they will leave Gaza: A day in their life
As the Israeli military intensifies its fight against the militant group Hamas in and around the southern Gaza city of Rafah, thousands are being forced to evacuate and several U.S. citizens are caught up in the confusion after the Israeli military took over the Rafah Crossing on May 7. Among those uncertain how they will get out of Gaza are a group of medics, who were volunteering with the Palestinian American Medical Association, working at the European Hospital in Khan Younis. "The U.N. have been working to try to secure a safe passage," Monica Johnston, a burns nurse from Portland, told ABC News in an interview.
