In the two years since 19 students and two teachers were killed in the Robb Elementary School mass shooting, some families of the 21 victims killed continue to search for answers and seek justice. The city of Uvalde and the federal government are among the agencies that investigated the shooting, leading to an overhaul of the city police department's policies and the implementation of training. Among multiple agency investigations, the only open investigation is a criminal case brought by Uvalde District Attorney Christina Mitchell.

Priest bites woman's hand during altercation over Holy Communion, officials say
A priest in Florida bit a woman’s hand during a physical altercation while he was administering Communion to the congregants of his church, officials said. The incident between the priest and a female parishioner began at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday during Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud, Florida, when a woman “came through Father Fidel Rodriguez’s Holy Communion line and appeared unaware of the proper procedure,” according to a statement released by the Diocese of Orlando. “Father Rodriguez gave the woman a blessing and advised her to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) before coming back to receive Holy Communion (Eucharist).”

2 people shot during California high school graduation ceremony
Two adults -- a man and a woman -- have been shot during a high school graduation taking place in California, according to police. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. at Skyline High School in Oakland, California, when two people, currently identified as an unnamed man and an unnamed woman, were shot on the north side of campus while the graduation ceremony was taking place, according to a statement from the Oakland Police Department. Skyline High School was placed on lockdown immediately following the incident but that was lifted shortly after the incident took place.

Rapper Sean Kingston arrested following raid at Florida mansion: Sheriff
Rapper Sean Kingston was arrested in California following a SWAT raid of his rented South Florida mansion, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday. Kingston, 34, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was arrested "without incident" in Fort Irwin, California, on numerous fraud and theft charges and will be booked into a San Bernadino jail, investigators said in a press release. Earlier on Thursday, Miami ABC News affiliate WPLG reported the rapper's mother, Janice Turner, was arrested on fraud charges following a raid at a residence in Southwest Ranches, Florida.

Former President Donald Trump pledged to turn New York red during a campaign rally in deep-blue South Bronx, New York, on Thursday evening as he worked to court the Hispanic and Black voters that make up a majority of the area's population. "I'm here tonight to declare that we are going to turn New York City around and we are going to turn it around very, very quickly," he said to the crowd not long after taking the stage. Several thousand Trump supporters turned up at Crotona Park in the South Bronx for the former president's rally -- on a day off from his New York hush-money trial -- where he gave his pitch for his supporters in New York to get out and vote.

Kouri Richins, Utah mom accused of fatally poisoning husband with fentanyl, asserts innocence in audio message
Kouri Richins, the Utah mother accused of murdering her husband by mixing a lethal dose of fentanyl with his cocktail, is speaking out from jail and proclaiming her innocence in a new audio recording. The 34-year-old mother of three, who wrote and self-published a children's book on grieving following her husband's death, has remained behind bars in the Summit County jail since her arrest in May 2023. Eric Richins was found dead in the couple's bedroom on March 4, 2022.

Trump campaign accuses Secret Service of 'critical flaw' in RNC convention planning
The Trump campaign on Thursday fired off a letter to U.S. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle, demanding she fix a "critical flaw" in the security perimeter of this summer's Republican National Convention, claiming that attendees' safety is at risk as protesters plan to descend on the area. The convention, slated for July 15-18 in Milwaukee, includes a perimeter that encompasses a nearby park, Pere Marquette. As of now, pedestrians would have to walk through Pere Marquette, which is owned by the city, to reach the facilities.

3 US service members treated for injuries related to pier off Gaza: CENTCOM
Three U.S. service members have been treated for injuries related to the U.S.-built pier off Gaza known as JLOTS, or the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore capability, according to U.S. Central Command. Vice Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM deputy commander, didn't provide specifics Thursday other than saying they were non-combat-related injuries and that two of the service members had returned to duty, while the third is receiving care at a local Israeli hospital. A defense official told ABC News the third service member is in critical condition and was injured aboard the USNS Benavidez, a U.S. Navy cargo ship.

Fulton County DA to appeal ruling that dismissed 6 counts in Trump's Georgia election case
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Thursday filed a notice of appeal on a March ruling that dismissed six of the counts in the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump and others. In March, Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee dismissed six of the counts, saying they lacked sufficient details. The notice of appeal, known as a cross appeal, comes after the appeals court already agreed to take up Trump and his co-defendants' appeal over their continued efforts to disqualify Willis from the case.

Shattered towns pick up the pieces as 2024 stacks up to be the most active tornado season since 2017
The town of Greenfield, Iowa, resembled a war zone on Thursday with uprooted trees and overturned cars in all directions and splintered wood that was once part of homes and businesses. Residents searched for belongings and family heirlooms in the rubble left by a devastating tornado that ripped through the community, killing four people. The funnel cloud that tore through Greenfield was confirmed by the National Weather Service to be an EF-4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with maximum wind speeds reaching 185 mph. It was on the ground for approximately 44 miles.

40,000-year-old mammoth bones discovered in wine cellar
While renovating his wine cellar, a man in Austria made a discovery far older than a vintage bottle of Merlot. Instead, he discovered a rare collection of mammoth bones, believed to date back approximately 40,000 years. Marking one of the most significant mammoth fossil finds in over a century in Austria, according to the Austrian Archeological Institute, researchers believe the prehistoric Stone Age bones belonged to at least three different mammoths.

Most younger women who want kids after breast cancer are successful, research data shows
Among younger women with breast cancer, it may be possible for many to have a baby after their diagnosis thanks to advances in breast cancer care, new research suggests. In a study of about 200 women ages 40 and younger with non-metastatic breast cancer who wanted children, roughly three-quarters were able to become pregnant after diagnosis, and about two-thirds had a baby. The research will be presented on Monday, June 3, at the 2024 ASCO Annual Conference, a major medical conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Democrats go on offense as the GOP opens the door to birth control restrictions
Former President Donald Trump opened the door to restricting access to contraceptives earlier this week, less than a week after Virginia's Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin vetoed two bills that would have established the right to contraception in the state. Now, Democrats are sounding the alarm over the fact that access to birth control methods are in question across the GOP ideological spectrum -- arguing that with Trump at its helm, the Republican Party is only further siphoning reproductive rights in the aftermath of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade in June 2002.

Senate again fails to advance border security bill in election-year showdown vote
For the second time in three months, an immigration and border security measure negotiated earlier this year by a bipartisan group of lawmakers failed to advance in the Senate, drawing the issue to a political stalemate. The legislation fell well short of the 60 votes needed -- the final tally was 43 to 50 -- as nearly all Republicans voted against it. The showdown vote came as both parties try to establish themselves as tough on border security ahead of the 2024 election.
