Recipes for World Nutella Day
If you don't feel like grabbing some pancakes today, there's another food holiday that might satisfy your stomach: World Nutella Day. Nutella, if you've never had it, is a spread made from sugar, cocoa, hazelnuts and palm oil.
This six-year-old holiday was created by Sara Rosso, an American blogger living in Italy. A Nutella fan, Rosso recruited other bloggers to help celebrate, and World Nutella Day was started.
That was 2006. Since then, the appreciation for Nutella has grown and the World Nutella Day Facebook page has over 37,000 likes. A YouTube video has even been created for the holiday.
World Nutella Day is not affiliated with the brand itself, but the company acknowledged it on Facebook: "Thank you to all of our fans around the world who share our love for Nutella hazelnut spread!"
Nutella was created by Pietro Ferrero, an Italian bakery owner, in the 1940s. Because of the chocolate rationing forced by World War II, Ferrero added hazelnuts to extend the supply of chocolate. The spread was first sold in the United States 25 years ago by Ferrero U.S.A.
