McDonald's Egg McMuffin Turns 40

Happy 40th birthday Egg McMuffin!  In August of 1972, this fast food staple was created by a restaurant franchisee named Herb Peterson.  Peterson created the sandwich based on his favorite breakfast item: Eggs Benedict.  Ray Kroc, president of the franchise at the time, loved the creation and the McMuffin opened up the doors to a booming breakfast business.  Despite its age, the sandwich has changed very little since the 1970s.  At only 300 calories, it still fits into its original packaging.  Try making the iconic sandwich at home with the recipe below.
