Who better to talk Super Bowl with than NFL super stars Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith? The football legends joined “GMA” anchors Josh Elliott and Sam Champion in New Orleans on “GMA LIVE!” today to talk all-things Super Bowl.
“T[his is when] you start getting focused and getting ready for the game,” Rice, an all-star wide-receiver, said. “I remember the Saturday before the game being able to visualize exactly what’s going to happen out there on that football field. You got to be able to control those emotions because you can become completely drained.”
Smith said his nerves during his very first Super Bowl game were so intense that he “thought it was an earthquake out in California” because of how much his legs were shaking.
“I was like, ‘What’s going on with me?’” Smith recalled. “I was so emotionally charged up .. that I was completely drained. …When you get to two and three, two is easier, three is even easier.”

Smith and Rice each have three Super Bowl wins a piece, which they are very proud of, but do they ever wear their championship rings?
“I hardly wear mine at all,” said Smith. “I don’t even look at them. Mine are in a safety deposit box at the bank.”
“This one right here,” he added, pointing to his wedding ring, “That’s the one my wife makes me wear.”
Rice, a former San Francisco 49er, said he was slightly nostalgic over his Super Bowl win so he decided to sport his championship ring in support.
“Just being here in New Orleans, and the hospitality, it’s so much fun and it just brought back memories of playing the Denver Broncos on that given day. So I decided to wear it in honor of the San Francisco 49ers,” Rice said.
While they hardly wear their Super Bowl rings, Smith said he actually pays more attention to his mirrorball trophy that he earned on season three of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
“That I do see. I walk by and it’s up in my game room,” Smith said. “I walk by and I’m like, ‘Man, look at this ridiculous trophy.’”
Rice also tackled ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” but came in second place to singer Drew Lachey.
“Still today when I see Drew Lachey, I want to take him down,” he joked.
While it’s clear who Rice as a former 49er is rooting for to win, Smith hedged his bets.
“Well, I think the San Francisco 49ers will win because the speed they actually have, but I’m going for Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens,” Smith said. “I’ve got friends in Baltimore and they will absolutely hurt me if I didn’t say that.”
