President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that prompted America's longest war, officials said Tuesday. There are roughly 2,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan now. Biden will announce the withdrawal on Wednesday, the White House said.

Minnesota police officer Kim Potter resigned from her position Tuesday after shooting and killing Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, at a traffic stop on Sunday, officials in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, announced. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon also submitted his resignation Tuesday, Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott announced at a press conference. Potter, a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, submitted her resignation effective immediately.

The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday that they are calling for an immediate pause on the use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine after discovering six cases in the United States of a rare and severe type of blood clot that developed about two weeks after the vaccine was administered in these patients. "Safety is a top priority for the federal government," acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock told reporters in a virtual news briefing, adding that while the blood clots were "extremely rare" the government was acting "out of an abundance of caution."

Without solid evidence of hate speech to indicate a perpetrator's motivation, seemingly random attacks against people from marginalized communities may instead be pursued as traditional criminal offenses, creating a problem with combating hate crimes. Hate crimes can be determined by a standalone law describing a specific act as a hate crime, or, can be a traditional criminal offense with some element of bias, according to the FBI on its website.
