Officers from the East Palestine Police Department in Ohio arrested NewsNation reporter Evan Lambert during a press conference about the cleanup efforts following a train derailment in a small Ohio village. Officials from the Columbiana County Jail confirmed Lambert was released at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday night and faces criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct charges. The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to ABC News that they also assisted in the reporter's arrest.
The toxins that burned in the wreckage of the train derailment in Ohio had the potential to be deadly if officials did not order evacuations in the region, experts told ABC News. An air quality disaster resulted on Friday night after about 50 cars on a Norfolk Southern Railroad train traveling from Illinois to Pennsylvania derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. Ten of those cars contained hazardous materials, five of which contained vinyl chloride, a highly volatile colorless gas produced for commercial uses.
President Joe Biden on Thursday will tout the work his administration is doing to bolster Medicare and Social Security, while warning that Republican members of Congress will "continue to push plans that would undermine these programs," according to the White House. Biden will travel to Tampa, Florida, on Thursday morning and deliver remarks at the University of Tampa in the afternoon. The president will also "contrast his commitment to protecting and strengthening Medicare and Social Security and lowering prescription drug prices, with Congressional Republicans’ plans to cut these programs," the White House said.

The body of a kindergarten teacher who had been missing since Monday has been found buried in a shallow grave only a few miles away from where she lived and worked, police said. Luz Hernandez, a 33-year-old kindergarten teacher from Jersey City, New Jersey, was first reported missing on Monday which led to the Jersey City Police Department to conduct a welfare check the following day in regards to the missing person’s report, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. “During the course of the investigation, the Homicide Unit located what appeared to be a shallow grave in the area of Central Avenue and Third Street in Kearny,” Suarez said.
At least one person is dead and five others have been injured after a driver in a stolen vehicle slammed into a building and caused it to collapse in an attempt to flee from police. The incident occurred at approximately 8:54 p.m. on Wednesday night in Baltimore, Maryland, when Eastern District officers spotted a stolen vehicle in the E. North Avenue corridor of the city and attempted to investigate when the vehicle took off, according to Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge. “The stolen vehicle struck another vehicle, and both vehicles collided with a building at the intersection of E. North Avenue and Wolfe Street, causing the building to collapse,” Eldridge said.
A tornado was spotted just outside of Tangipahoa, Louisiana, Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service New Orleans, which has urged residents to take shelter as the tornado moves north. Three people were injured after a possible tornado touched down near the village of Tangipahoa, according to Tangipahoa Parish Police Chief Jimmy Travis. On Wednesday, tornado watches were issued for several states in the South, as storms move across the region.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday responded to former President Donald Trump's latest insult after Trump reshared a social media post insinuating that DeSantis behaved inappropriately around students when he worked as a private school teacher. The blog claimed the image shows DeSantis at a party with a group of teenagers in 2002. The New York Times reported in November that DeSantis sometimes "hung out at parties with seniors" while he was a 23-year-old teaching in Georgia.

Residents near the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line who were told to evacuate after tanker cars derailed in a fiery crash can return home after an evacuation order was lifted on Wednesday, officials said. Air and water samples that were collected Tuesday have been deemed safe, according to officials. Officials have urged East Palestine residents to follow a "Safe Return Traffic Plan" to ensure a seamless return to the northeastern Ohio village where the derailment occurred on Friday.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday revealed that the U.S. assesses the alleged Chinese spy balloon shot down over the weekend was part of an expansive surveillance program aimed at gathering intelligence from targets around the globe. Speaking at a joint press conference with NATO's top official, Blinken said the administration was already sharing what the U.S. intelligence community had uncovered with America's allies and Congress. "Senior administration officials are on the Hill this week, and we already shared information with dozens of countries around the world, both from Washington and from our embassies," Blinken said.
Texas is suing the Biden administration and asking a judge to block a rule requiring pharmacies to fill prescriptions for abortion pills. The Department of Health and Human Services issued guidance in mid-July -- just three-and-a-half weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade -- to 60,000 retail pharmacies across the country. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday against the HHS by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Western District of Texas Midland Division.
Former Twitter executives told a House committee Wednesday that the social media company made a mistake in its handling of a controversial New York Post story on Hunter Biden's laptop. The action by the social media platform just weeks before the 2020 election unleashed a wave of backlash from Republicans, who accused Twitter executives of suppressing the story to shield President Joe Biden and his family from what they say was damaging material found on a laptop hard drive belonging to the president's son. During a hearing of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Republicans grilled the three executives about the company's decision to block users from sharing the story on the younger Biden, and suggested the social media giant acted under orders from the government when it suppressed the story.
A number of popular Fabuloso cleaning products were recalled Wednesday by the Colgate-Palmolive Company due to risk of bacteria contamination, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. About 4.9 million units -- as well as about 56,000 units in Canada -- of various Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner products were impacted by the recall, according to the CPSC. "We are voluntarily recalling certain Fabuloso products because a preservative was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing," Fabuloso said in a statement on its official recall website.
