American Bryan Hagerich was spared a lengthy prison sentence under Turks and Caicos' strict gun laws and will return to the U.S. after paying a fine. The father of two was caught with ammunition in his baggage earlier this year. Hagerich had faced a possible 12-year sentence, the country's minimum for possessing guns or ammunition, under a strict law in place aimed at addressing rising crime and gang violence.

Viral dog Kabosu, who inspired 'Doge' meme, DogeCoin, dies at 18: Owner
The internet-famous dog behind the iconic "Doge" meme has died, according to an announcement shared Friday on the canine's official Instagram account, run by her owner Atsuko Sato. "To all of you who loved Kabosu, On the morning of the 24th of May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge," the statement, shared in Japanese and English, read. Kabosu, a Shiba Inu, went viral in 2013 after a photo of the light golden brown dog and their inscrutable facial expression was shared on Sato's blog.

Travis Kelce is weighing in on his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech from earlier this month. Memorial Day weekend weather: Tornadoes and record-high temperatures
It's been a very active week for severe weather, with almost 80 reported tornadoes since Sunday -- and more are in the forecast for Memorial Day weekend. On Thursday, there were 21 reported tornadoes in North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas combined. Thursday also brought damaging winds that knocked down trees and power lines across Maine, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.

Memorial Day weekend travel: The busiest days to fly and drive
A record-breaking number of travelers are expected to hit the road and take to the skies this Memorial Day weekend. Thursday even marked the Transportation Security Administration's second-busiest day in history, with 2,887,605 people traveling through airports. This is a 4.8% jump from last year and marks the busiest Memorial Day weekend at U.S. airports since 2005.

Priest bites woman's hand during altercation over Holy Communion, officials say
A priest in Florida bit a woman’s hand during a physical altercation while he was administering Communion to the congregants of his church, officials said. The incident between the priest and a female parishioner began at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday during Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud, Florida, when a woman “came through Father Fidel Rodriguez’s Holy Communion line and appeared unaware of the proper procedure,” according to a statement released by the Diocese of Orlando. “Father Rodriguez gave the woman a blessing and advised her to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) before coming back to receive Holy Communion (Eucharist).”

2 people shot after California high school graduation ceremony
Two adults -- a man and a woman -- have been shot following a high school graduation taking place in California, according to police. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. at Skyline High School in Oakland, California, when two people, currently identified as an unnamed man and an unnamed woman, were shot on the north side of campus shortly after the graduation ceremony took place, according to a statement from the Oakland Police Department. Skyline High School was placed on lockdown immediately following the incident but that was lifted shortly after the incident took place.

Former President Donald Trump made his first public comments on former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley finally breaking her silence and saying she would vote for him. "I appreciated what she said," Trump told Long Island’s News 12 after his rally on Thursday when asked about her comments. Trump then suggested there could be a place for Haley on his "team” and called her a "capable person."

Rapper Sean Kingston arrested following raid at Florida mansion: Sheriff
Rapper Sean Kingston was arrested in California following a SWAT raid of his rented South Florida mansion, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday. Kingston, 34, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was arrested "without incident" in Fort Irwin, California, on numerous fraud and theft charges and will be booked into a San Bernadino jail, investigators said in a press release. Earlier on Thursday, Miami ABC News affiliate WPLG reported the rapper's mother, Janice Turner, was arrested on fraud charges following a raid at a residence in Southwest Ranches, Florida.

Former President Donald Trump pledged to turn New York red during a campaign rally in deep-blue South Bronx, New York, on Thursday evening as he worked to court the Hispanic and Black voters that make up a majority of the area's population. "I'm here tonight to declare that we are going to turn New York City around and we are going to turn it around very, very quickly," he said to the crowd not long after taking the stage. Kouri Richins, the Utah mother accused of murdering her husband by mixing a lethal dose of fentanyl with his cocktail, is speaking out from jail and proclaiming her innocence in a new audio recording. The 34-year-old mother of three, who wrote and self-published a children's book on grieving following her husband's death, has remained behind bars in the Summit County jail since her arrest in May 2023. Eric Richins was found dead in the couple's bedroom on March 4, 2022.
