The objective of Cribbage is to be the first to score 121 points by creating card-combinations. This is a 2-player game.

The dealer is randomly chosen. Each player gets dealt 6 cards, then discards 2 to the dealer's crib. The top deck card becomes the starter card. If it's a Jack, the dealer gets 2 bonus points.

Take turns playing cards without going over 31. Aces are 1, face cards are 10, and others match the number on them. Playing a card to make exactly 31 gets 2 points. If you can't play without exceeding 31, a new round begins. If neither you nor your opponent can play without exceeding 31, the played cards and count are set aside and a new round begins. If you play the last card, you score a 1-point bonus and end the play.

You earn bonus points for combinations like pairs, runs (3 cards played in sequence), and 15-counts during play. The starter card isn't used here.

You score more points from your hand's combinations after all cards are played. The dealer counts combinations in the crib. Be wise with crib card choices, as the dealer has an advantage.

Scores are pegged: non-dealer, dealer, then crib. The game ends when someone reaches 121 points.

There are 2 types of points that are scored: playing points and hand/crib points. Playing points are earned during the pegging phase of the game, which occurs after the hands have been dealt and the crib has been formed. Hand and crib points are earned during the scoring phase that follows the pegging phase.

  • 15 is a combination of cards adding up to 15. It gives 2 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A pair is a pair of cards of the same rank. It gives 2 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A royal pair is 3 cards of the same rank. It gives 6 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A double royal pair is four cards of the same rank. It gives 12 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A straight of 3 is 3 cards of consecutive ranks. It gives 3 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A straight of 4 is 4 cards of consecutive ranks. It gives 4 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A straight of 5 is 5 cards of consecutive ranks. It gives 4 playing and hand/crib points.
  • A straight long is more cards of consecutive rank, 1 playing and hand/crib point for each.
  • A flush 4-card is when all cards of the hand/crib are the same suit. It gives 4 hand/crib points.
  • A flush 5-card is when all cards of the hand/crib are the same suit. It gives 5 hand/crib points.
  • A nob is when a Jack in a hand/crib and a starter are the same suit (one for his nob). It gives 1 hand/crib point.
  • A 31 is when your cards add up to 31 pips in playing. It gives 2 playing points.
  • A last card or go is when the last card played is below 31. It gives 1 playing point.
  • A his heels is a special bonus score of 2 points that the dealer immediately pegs if the starter card (the top card of the deck) is a Jack of the same suit as the cut card (the card cut from the deck to determine the starter). It gives 2 playing points.
  • A double run of 3 cards is when there are 2 3-card runs and a pair. It gives 8 hand/crib points.
  • A double run of 4 cards is when there are 2 4-card runs and a pair. It gives 10 hand/crib points.
  • A triple run of 3 cards is when there are three 3-card runs and a royal pair. It gives 15 hand/crib points.
  • A double double run of 3 cards is when there are four 3-card runs and 2 pairs. It gives 16 hand/crib points.
