The objective of Bridge is to work with a partner to win as many tricks as possible, scoring the most points.
Each round starts with you and your partner guessing how many tricks you can win with a special set of cards called a trump suit. You say a number (1-7) and the trump suit you choose, or you can say "no trump." The final team to bid must win that number of tricks plus 6. This final bid is called the contract.
When it's your turn, you can either bid, pass, or double your opponent's bid. Opponents can then double it again. These actions increase the points you can win. Bidding stops when 3 players pass in a row. The person who starts the bidding for the trump suit is called the declarer.
Next, the player to the declarer's left plays the first card. The declarer's partner's cards are placed on the table as the "dummy hand" for the rest of the round. You follow the suit of the first card if you can, or you can play any card, including the trump suit. The highest trump wins, or if no trumps are played, the highest card of the first suit wins. The winner leads the next trick. The goal is to win as many tricks as you bid during the bidding phase.
