When I was in college, I was ecstatic to live in student housing that included a kitchen my sophomore year. On Campus Steakhouse

High Point University in North Carolina has an actual steakhouse on campus. Yes a white tablecloth, wine serving, five-course meal, steakhouse. Students can eat one “Magic Meal” a week there (and boy does it sound magical) or use their dining points to pay the $50 flat fee. We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty certain a steak dinner once a week would definitely have helped us keep our grades up (@SavannahLencore/Instagram).

Homemade Ice Cream Shop

A surprising number of schools have on-campus dairies, where they make their own homemade ice cream using milk from their own cows. At Maryland Dairy at the University of Maryland, they make homemade traditional, as well as school-themed, flavors. To name just a few, the University of Wisconsin, Cornell, and University of Connecticut also have their own dairy stores (@katieeatz/Instagram).

Annual Lobster Bake

Bowdoin College is known for its amazing cafeteria food and is often listed at the very top when it comes to campus dining rankings. The guaranteed annual lobster alone is a perk that makes us want to apply (@dmoney_thadon/Instagram).

Campus Vineyard

No need to run to the liquor store when you’ve got a university vineyard like they do at UC Davis. You can get a degree in wine-making or just head to the campus wine cellar for a class or two. US Davis also grows olives, makes olive oil, and keeps bees (@justinkingiv/Instagram)!

Seriously Local Maple Syrup

Hampshire College has an entire farm. But, the best part is that students (and faculty and visitors, too) can buy maple syrup that is produced and tapped from trees on campus (@hampshirecollegefarm/Instagram).

Homemade Cheese

Earlier we said that a good number of colleges make their own ice cream, but many of those schools with a campus dairy also make their own cheese. Mississippi State (among others) makes, packages, and sells its own cheese (@dailystoremsu/Instagram).

Campus Beekeeping

Some colleges educate students and do research surrounding bees and beekeeping. Which means there’s local campus honey to be enjoyed, like Aggie Honey from Texas A&M (@britt_shultz_bs/Instagram).

Organic Farm

Sure we’d all love to exclusively eat sustainable, organic food, but that’s not where our brain goes when we think of college. Wesleyan University, however, has its own student-run organic farm and produce is subsequently sold at a campus farmer’s market, used at the school’s cafeteria, or donated (@longlanefarm/Instagram).

Grass Fed Cattle

Having a farm is one thing, but at Warren-Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina they also raise grass-fed cattle. Students are a big part of the process and the school also sells its own meat and eggs (@warrenwilsoncollege/Instagram).

Sit-Down Restaurant

Instead of wandering around the cafeteria looking for your food, at The University of Vermont you can head to a sit-down restaurant complete with white tablecloths and a waitstaff (@uvmbored/Instagram).
