Sriracha Fans Rejoice: New Line of Sriracha-Infused Snacks Set to Launch

There’s Sriracha, and then there’s Sriracha. The latter, of course, is the famously spicy condiment made by Huy Fong Foods, which, since its rise to prominence, has spawned an army of imitators. Major brands such as Heinz and Lay’s have released Sriracha-flavored products in recent years — ketchup and potato chips, respectively — yet neither incorporate the Huy Fong product that sparked the original Sriracha craze.

But take heart, Sriracha lovers: Yahoo Food can exclusively report that a Seattle-based company, Pop! Gourmet Foods, has recently partnered with Huy Fong Foods to produce a new line of products that are actually made with the iconic sauce.

There’s Huy Fong Sriracha popcorn ($3.99), which is already in stores. On April 8, Huy Fong Sriracha potato chips ($3.99) will hit shelves. Coming months will see croutons, tortilla chips, hummus, and more.

But we’re most excited for an item to launch April 20: A spice mixture made from a base of dehydrated Huy Fong Sriracha. Yes, folks: Sriracha in powdered form, which could be easily sprinkled on anything. Your. Heart. Desires. (It will retail for $4.99 for a 5 oz. bottle.)

“We eat it here with our lunch, on top of fries or chicken breasts or whatever,” Pop! Gourmet Foods founder and CEO David Israel told Yahoo Food. The idea came about during testing for the company’s other Sriracha-infused offerings — dehydrated Sriracha gives Pop!’s popcorn and potato chips their flavor — and Israel sent a sample to Huy Fong Foods for founder David Tran’s assessment.

“They wrote back to me and said that David actually took it home to use it at his house,” Israel said with a laugh. That, he added, is the highest seal of approval possible.

Israel said the products will emphasize the connection with Huy Fong Foods, which is directly involved in development and gets the final approval before anything goes to market. All of Pop! Gourmet’s Sriracha offerings will bear the famous Huy Fong branding: red and green packaging with a rooster.

But most importantly, everything will be made with Huy Fong Sriracha. “McCormick does a Sriracha seasoning, but it’s not Huy Fong. With us, you’re getting the real deal,” Israel said.

More Huy Fong-infused products will soon follow. Over the next weeks and months, keep your eyes peeled for Sriracha-dusted croutons and tortilla chips, Sriracha ketchup, Sriracha mayonnaise, and Sriracha hummus. An additional four to five items are also in the works, though Israel wouldn’t elaborate. All will likely be found in Kroger supermarkets and Bed Bath & Beyond stores. Israel suggested interested parties keep a close watch on the Pop! Gourmet Foods website, which will post updates on where to find everything.

Israel, for his part, is excited to be part of the line. “When people see ‘Sriracha’ on something, they think it’s Huy Fong,” he said. “There’s a ton of companies out there, and I think they should be embarrassed. Not only are they calling [their product] ‘Sriracha,’ but it’s green tops and red packaging. A lot have hens or roosters on the package, trying to pass it off [as Huy Fong.] And you know what? That’s not how I do business. And that’s why they trusted me.”
