Snack Hacks for the Office

If you eat lunch at your desk every day (as, unfortunately, 65 percent of all American office workers do), you know that the practice comes with certain pitfalls.

Crumbs. Unevenly-microwaved leftovers. Sadness.

Fortunately for you desk-side noshers, FoodBeast recently compiled some helpful snack hacks for eating smarter at the office. Among them: using a rubber band to hold together apple slices together (prevents browning, seems a tad gross); boiling an egg in a cup of coffee (what the what?); microwaving crumbly granola bars to soften them (maybe crumbs won’t get stuck in your keyboard, but we question whether people want soft granola).

Perhaps the best hack of all, in our humble opinion, might be the act of stepping away from your desk and taking lunch elsewhere. If you don’t believe us, believe Dr. Chris Cunningham, a professor of industrial-organizational and occupational health psychology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Work is draining, Cunningham told the Wall Street Journal last year. ”Taking a lunch break away from the desk lets people separate themselves from the source of that drain…[It’s an] opportunity to build back some of those resources in the middle of the day—rather than just at the end when work is over.”

Eating lunch while you read this? Go outside!
