The topic of female chefs has been big in the food world lately (rightfully so), and the James Beard Foundation voters kept the theme going at last night’s annual awards ceremony. Women took home most of the major prizes, including outstanding restaurateur (Barbara Lynch, of Boston), outstanding chef (Nancy Silverton, from Los Angeles), and best chef in New York (April Bloomfield).

Other big prizes went to the Slanted Door in San Francisco, which won outstanding restaurant, and Pêche Seafood Grill in New Orleans, which took home the prize for best new restaurant, a category that had been stacked with New York restaurants (Betony, Estela, and Carbone were all in the mix). The outstanding pastry chef award went to Monsieur Cronut, Dominique Ansel, who has perhaps had the most outstanding year of any pastry chef in the history of mankind.
