Guacamole-gate: Why Everyone (Including President Obama) Hates This Recipe

Politics tends to be divisive, particularly on the Twittersphere, where a limited number of characters leaves little room for nuanced debate. But there’s one national issue that seems to have united all Americans, including the President himself. We’re talking about guacamole.

During President Obama’s #AskPOTUS live tweet session on Wednesday afternoon, in which he answered hard-hitting questions about Medicaid and premium insurance hikes, the President also addressed a peculiar New York Times recipe for green pea guacamole“Add green peas to your guacamole. Trust us,” the Times tweeted earlier in the day.

And it turns out that President Obama is hardly alone in his skepticism. The people of the Internet are anti-pea when it comes to their Mexican dips… very anti-pea. Many critics quickly responded to the Times with such eloquent rebuttals as “gtfo,” “delete your account,” and simply, “No D:

So there you have it, people. The official presidential word on guacamole is that it is a pea-free zone. No word yet from the Clinton camp on where Hillary falls on the issue, but we’ll be sure to keep you informed on all Guacamole-gate matters as this historical story unfolds.
