Yahoo Food’s Cookbook of the Week: Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook (Crown)

The Team: Ina Garten, a.k.a. the wildly popular Barefoot Contessa of theEmmy-winning Food Network show, who has authored eight other best-selling cookbooks; food photographer Quentin Bacon; and photographer John M. Hall, who snapped the shots of Garten’s beautiful Hamptons, New York, home garden.

The Idea: In her ninth book, Garten tackles the question many with busy work lives ask of the food we consider cooking: “Can I make it ahead?” Garten became an expert on the topic after running her own specialty foods store in East Hampton for twenty years, and here she shares her tips and tricks for cooking, prepping, and baking in advance. Follow them, and you can actually enjoy yourself come mealtime.

Who Should Buy It: Those who love to entertain, but want to do it with ease.

Who Shouldn’t: Those of the Modernist Cuisine camp who prefer to whip out the hot-infusion siphon to impress dinner guests.

Must-Make Recipes: Parmesan Kale ChipsSalty Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies, and, come Thanksgiving, Make-Head Roast Turkey with Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy.

Noteworthy: Make It Ahead was Amazon.com’s second best-selling cookbook in September, before it was even available for purchase. As we’ve said before, that sure says something about the broad appeal of its author.
