Cake of the Day: Igloo Cake
Photo: The Cake Girls
In light of the east coast superstorm Juno, we bring you… an igloo cake!
Mary and Brenda Maher are the sister duo behind The Cake Girls, a an upscale cake shop in Chicago that was unfortunately destroyed in a fire. They’ve made a strong comeback with the launch of their online store, though, where you’ll find baking supplies and tutorials on how to make crafty cakes at home. Their work has been featured on Food Network, Martha Stewart Weddings and Real Simple Weddings.
Now back to their snowy hut! Mary and Brenda start with vanilla batter, baked using a half ball cake pan and 6-inch round cake pan to make up the body of the house. To create the entryway, they cut a doughnut in half and attach it with light blue icing. The “icicles” on the front? White chocolate, broken into shards. that’s been cut and broken into shards.
