5 Smart Dish Towel Buys

By Maxwell Ryan

I’m a dish towel aficionado. They stand for serious cooking, commercial kitchens and a well oiled home. I don’t use paper towels and love to have a few clean, soft dish towels at arm’s reach in the kitchen at all times. I started out my adult life with Ikea’s TEKLA towel, then ran away with these Commercial Flour Sack towels above. The awesome thing about flour sacks is their large size and thin weight that makes them ideal for absorbing and cleaning ANYTHING around the house. They are also good for wrapping up food for lunches. But recently I have begun cheating on my flour sacks because of a passion for super soft Liliane Dish Towels that come in a few different sizes and colored stripes. All my favorite dish towels, below:

Commercial Flour Sack Towels (photo above) - $26.95 for a dozen

Extra Large 20"x30" Kitchen Dish Towels (13 Units) by Liliane Collection - $26.99

These are the new ones I just ordered. A bit bigger, with a pleasing, fat green stripe. I’m excited.

Liliane Collection Kitchen Dish Towels (13 Units) - $17.99

My fave for the past few years, Liliane dish towels are great for daily use with a herringbone weave in 100% cotton. They stay bright white longer than others, get super soft, and are a great size for standard kitchens.

TEKLA Dish Towels - $.79

100% cotton and modeled on classic European commercial dish towels, these are awesome and I still use them in places. The only problem is that they seem harder to keep bright white. These are your best budget pick.

Williams-Sonoma Striped Dishcloths Set of 4 - $9.95

At the expensive end of the spectrum, I found many people swearing by these basket weaved dish towels from W-S that absorb like crazy. 100% cotton and made in Turkey. One reader wrote: “The best kitchen towels are the basketweave striped ones from William-Sonoma. I have like 30 of them, seriously. They’re large, sturdy (100% cotton) and long-lasting.”
