There's heroism in going solo.

But even legendary entrepreneur Daymond John admits that sometimes, playing well with others is the greater challenge.

"Don't think that there is something special about being an entrepreneur and so difficult. Sometimes those who work at a corporation ... it's harder working as an intrapreneur at a corporation because you have to deal with all those sensitive people," said John, speaking at Forefront, the first large-scale live event of the I Will Teach You to Be Rich community in New York City.

John launched his career growing the hip-hop culture clothing line FUBU into a six-billion-dollar brand. Today, he is one of the "sharks" on the ultra-popular entrepreneurship show on ABC, Shark Tank .

While entrepreneurship steals most of the headlines, equally challenging is being an "intrapreneur," or someone who is trying to innovate from within a large corporate structure.

John followed up his nod to the challenges of being an intrapreneur with a quip.

"You thought of one specific person when I just said that, didn't you?"

The joke elicited a knowing laugh from the audience.
