See what campaign cash looks like for Baton Rouge mayor-president candidates
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The declared candidates for East Baton Rouge Parish mayor-president are fundraising and working to sway voters ahead of the fall election. Finance reports show each campaign’s cash on hand.
Former State Rep. Ted James collected more than $508,000 in political contributions since Jan. 1. Incumbent Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome collected over $200,000 less, bringing in just over $307,000.
As of April 29, Broome had a $320,000 war chest and has spent about $96,600 so far this year. She announced in January that she will seek a third term in office.
James had more than $473,200 and spent over $87,100. He announced his candidacy in February.

Broome’s campaign reacted on Friday, May 10, to being out-donated, saying James’ donor base is filled with special interest groups and Republicans such as Eddie Rispone.
James is running as a Democrat. The James campaign fired back saying that’s not true and his support comes from across the parish.
No other candidates have yet announced that they plan to run for the office. Qualifying dates are July 17-19. The primary will be Tuesday, Nov. 5 and the general will be Saturday, Dec. 7.
