Jeff Bezos

Amazon began as a small startup run out of Jeff Bezos' Seattle garage in 1994 and has grown into an e-commerce giant worth just over $1 trillion as of April 2023. As enormous as that number is, the company's value actually is down almost 34% from April 2022. Formerly the CEO, he stepped down from that role in July 2021 and was named executive chairman. He holds just under a 10% stake in the company, Forbes reported.

Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft -- then called Micro-Soft -- with his childhood friend Paul Allen in 1975. He left his daily job at the software company that made him rich in 2008 to focus on charitable pursuits through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2010, Gates teamed with fellow billionaire Warren Buffett and Melinda, his former wife, to launch The Giving Pledge and gained the commitment of some of the wealthiest Americans to donate most of their wealth to "address some of society's most pressing problems," according to its website.

Elon Musk

The CEO of rocket producer SpaceX and electric car maker Tesla, Elon Musk is changing the way the world moves. He wears many hats, including inventor, executive and futurist -- roles that have paid him well. He also bought Twitter in a highly publicized transaction in October 2022 and owns an estimated 74% of the social media company, Forbes reported.

SpaceX was valued at $127 billion after its latest funding round in May 2022, according to Forbes.

Mark Zuckerberg

As the CEO and co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is among the 20 richest people in the world, according to Forbes. Zuckerberg started his social media platform in 2004 for his fellow Harvard students, but it's since grown into a go-to communications tool for people around the world.

Zuckerberg currently owns about 13% of Facebook's shares, Forbes reported.
