Minority business development center opens in Las Vegas

May 13—A center focused on helping socially and economically disadvantaged business owners is now open in Las Vegas, N.M.

The New Mexico Minority Business Development Agency, a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, said the business development center will provide consulting services, business development webinars, loan help, and aid in procurement and bid opportunities to business owners in the area.

The center at 366 Luna Drive began operations following a $183,000 federal supplemental grant from the federal Minority Business Development Agency that was matched by $20,333 from the city of Albuquerque, which helps operate the agency through its Economic Development Department.

"As stipulated in the operating charter, the City is tasked with ensuring the availability of services statewide," city of Albuquerque spokeswoman Sara Mannal said in an email.

In addition, one other center opened in Las Cruces at 277 E Amador Ave., according to a news release. That center secured funding for operations through a $200,000 allocation sponsored by U.S. Sens. Ben Ray Luján and Martin Heinrich.

"We are committed to helping business owners thrive throughout New Mexico," business center Director Gabriela Marques said in a statement. "We are grateful for the support from our many partners as we continue to expand our services and help businesses succeed not just here in Albuquerque, but across our state."
